Took the beginning of the scratch (Under the front end of the rear window all the way to the end of the fender where the curves go back inward.)

That looks like a key, definitely not a rock. Really doesn't matter what caused it, it's a scratch. It doesn't look bad, I'd recommend taking the money you would have spent on your deductible and getting a Porter Cable 7424 and some 3M fine cutting compound, then get a polishing compound. I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if that buffed out.

I'd really appreciate that. Please give me an estimate on fixing that scratch.

My 2 cents, if it was my car I would take it to a good detailing shop. Don't fool around with compound if you don't know what you are doing because this stuff can burn through the paint.

From experience, if you lightly run your fingernail accross the scratch and can't really feel it, then the detailer has a good chance of removing it. However, if you feel the scratch, then you are probably looking at a paint job. Good luck.

That'll buff out. Any detailer will be able to do it for an hour labor easily.

I would have to take a look at it first to see if all of it can be buffed out. I usually give an estimate on site. PM me your number and we'll go from there.

Definitely a key. I can't believe that some people will do that to someone's car for no reason, other than jealousy perhaps. We need a way to charge the surface of the car up to 50,000 volts so when the key touches the paint... ZAP!

so if I can't get it buffed out and obviously repainting the entire quarterpanel is going to cost $$$$, should I bother with insurance? I have a $100 deductible for comprehensive

There's about a 99% chance that virtually all of the scratch can be removed. It definately wasn't caused by a rock, but maybe you ran over a tree branch and it scraped your car. It will take less than ten miniutes for a good detail man with a good orbital polisher to get rid of the scratch.

Personally I would never report someting this minor to my Insurance company. Most Insurers keep a record of the number of claims filed, and I wouldn't want someting so minor to be counted against me.

I would def. try to buff that out before i made a claim against my insurance. If you cant buff it, pay someone to. Better than making your premiums go up. Just my 2cents.

oh yeah, and you might want to wash that dirty a$$ car before you start or else it will turn into a nightmare.
