Oil consumption

Oil consumption
After a total of 4300 miles on my coupe I am starting to get concerned about my oil consumption. I just came back from a 1400 mile trip and the oil is down a 1/2 quart. Car was broken in per the manufacturer's recommendations and is running great. Would like to know what others are experencing re oil consumption on fully broken in engines.
Thanks

Re: Oil consumption
nothing used on mine with 11.4K miles.
suggestion: it's very hard (at least it is for me) to tell when the new oil is put in exactly where it is on the dipstick. i actually have to put the stick in about three times before i can see exactly where it comes up to. could it be that you're not filling it completely when you first get the oil change and then as the oil becomes dirtier you can see where it is on the stick?
if not, altho the amount is probably within what the mfr. would call allowable tolerances, i'd be a bit concerned. i'm not sure what to do about it other than to talk with infiniti consumer affairs and/or ask the dealership to have the area rep come by and look at the car. what has the dealer service mgr. said about this?
keep us posted on your progress.

Re: Oil consumption
I count on the dip stick reading ony after 2 readings come out the same which usually takes 3 or 4 tries!!! The dealer said as we suspected that 1 qt per 3,000 miles "is not unusual" although the few responses I got from the forum indicates that it might be. He did say there is an oil consumption test they can run which frankly I have never heard of and can't imagine how it would work over a short period of test time. Guess I will continue to watch it, add oil and if it still is consuming oil when it is time for the next change in a few thousand miles I will have them run that test. Also hope to be better informed as to other owner's experience by posting the question on other forums including 350Z ones.
