Test drove MY06 6MT today

I like all the changes / updates except perhaps the revised taillights. I concluded what I always seem to conclude after testdriving a 6mt car - it's fun and I dig it but definitely not as my only car. Way too much stop and go where I live. Too much work. Guess I'll be sticking with my 5AT until there's a clutchless manual available in a car like the G35 Coupe or I get to the point where I can afford to upgrade to a new 6MT G and buy a decent beater to drive on the days I don't feel like shifting (just a Civic or something would work to commute). Right now though I'm saving up for other things.

It reminded me quite a bit of the 6MT 350Z I test drove (back in '04 when I was car shopping and ended up with the G) only it felt a little bigger.

Oh and the seat position for the driver definitely seemed lower in the 6MT G than in my '04.5 5AT G. That was odd. I got back in my G and had to doublecheck that my seat was all the way down.

I saw my first 2006 coupe today at the San Jose Auto Show. I liked projector headlamps but the rear taillights are gross. Did anyone swap 06 w/ 03/04/05 lights yet?

Wow.... the rear taillights aren't bad man. The only draw back that I see when I look at them is the film or whatever it is over them that covers the actual LED itself to give it a blur. It seems as if Infiniti was trying to go with an odd triangle type light look, b/c the reverse light is kinda triangle-ish, and the entire led cluster is somewhat blurred thanks to the cover to make it look a bit like the shape of the reverse light.
I do wish that the LEDs were more clearly visible like the previous models, but I really like the "nipples" that the lights have, reminds me of the look of the older skylines.

Hopefully the 07 G has something comparable to audi's dsg. Faster than a manual with even better gas mileage.

That would be a dream come true, doc.

As for the taillights, how can any significant reverse lighting come out of those tiny slits on the 06 tails? I definitely like the bigger reverse lights on my '04 better, if nothing else.

That's a great idea. I wonder though, considering the trunk release button built into it if that affects anything.
