PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, never go by what a magazine article tells you. But here is another point of view.

Car and driver has the G35c 6mt doing 60mph in 5.5. In order to get those times out of the RX8 you have to rev the heck out of the thing and dump the clutch. I dont remember what the 5-60 is for the rx8 but it is CONSIDERABLYslower since it has no torque and you cant dump the clutch.

 

The RX8 is just like the S2000 you have to drive it like you hate to get the best times out of them. The fastest regular street start (5-60) for the RX8 is around 7.5s but the G35 coupe is around 6.2s.

 

R&T gets reasonable skidpad and slalom numbers but their 0-60 #s seem off quite a bit. If you look at their road test digest and compare to MT and C&D, they have some wily numbers.

 

Well.. Besides the fact that R&T can't drive for [censored].. The G35 has a lot more to it than the RX8. Hell the rx8 should be faster.. Its a friggin go cart with doors! The G35 is obviously the superior car. Beautiful interior, very comfortable, very good looking, and yada yada yada. Not to mention it's a helluva lot easier to modify than the brand new RENISIS engine (which is already had every bit of power squeezed out of it). And the wussies at R&T are scared of torque..

I ordered an RX8 back in July (first of its kind in Victoria) ... my purchase was subject to a test drive. I test drove the RX8, G35 Sedan, and Lexus IS300 (wanted 4 doors). I was very disappointed with the power from the rotary engine. I now have my 2004 G35 Sedan on order, expecting delivery the end of August. Some how 1/4 mile times and 0 to 60 times dont impress me specially that each individual drives diferent and times chenge dramatically from driver to driver. I like doing this other test it lasts a little longer than 5 or six seconds an even more than 13 or 14 ...............

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the face that Car and Driver magazine did a comparison test between the RX8 and the G35 Coupe. It was only a few months ago, but I don't remember exactly which issue. But it had the G35C, RX8 and Mustang Cobra on the cover.

Anyway, it that particular comparison test, the G35 was faster than the RX8, although the Cobra blew them all away.
