Gas cap door Won't Open!

I have an '03 coupe. Unlike the sedans, you don't have to hit any button to open the gas cap door. You just go outside the car, push on the backside of it, and it pops open. Some home cabinets are the same way.

Well, my gas light comes on yesterday on my way to the Seahawk's playoff game, and I pull into the gas station to fill it up. Then I find that it won't open! When you push down on it, it goes back, but then doesn't "click" and pop open. Service department at the dealership doesn't reopen until tomorrow, and my Navi is now showing **** meaning 0 miles left in the tank.

Anybody ever had this problem? WTF!

There have been several old threads on this.
The lid is locked/unlocked with the doors (sedan is the same)

the release solonoid is not working.
You can pop it from inside the trunk.
You have to remove the liner to get to it.

Try this:

- Take the key out of the ignition with the FOB
- Stand next to the gas door and press the FOB "unlock" button twice (as if you want to unlock the passenger door)

This should unlock the gas cap door and you can push and release to open it.

the gas door lock solenoid is broken. I've changed quite a few already. goto the dealership if you can make it there and have them replace it.

Forgot to mention in my original post, but I did try locking/unlocking the car many times. Didn't work though...

I'll try removing the inner trunk liner. Once I have that off, how do I pop it open?

Had the same issue, I actually pulled the lid and the actuator actually broke off. It was replaced free via warrenty.

I figured it out. Wasn't nearly as hard to find/reach as I originally thought. Just popped out 5 clips, easily found that cheesy white plastic solenoid, and played with it until I heard the gas cap pop open. Turns out you pull the lever thing out, towards the back of the car, to unlock the mechanism.

Appreciate the help guys!

The same thing happened to me last night...
I thought it was frozen shut, though, so I worked some lock-de icer in there & managed to "finesse" it open after about 15 mins in 9* weather.
I'll be taking it to the stealership this week to have it looked at.
