hmmm... Im talking about the b5 s4. not b6 or b7. The new ones do have a 4.2 v8, while the old ones have a twin turbo 2.7 v6. Which is actually capable of more power, for less money than the 4.2.

err... mostly it oils down to the fact that I don't like G sedans. Sorry man, just not my tastes. Nice cars though...

Im actually thinking 03-04 G. vs 00-02 s4. Keep the price comparable. I think I met be set on the G though, the more I think about it...

please from a former audi owner....stay away from the four rings! I had horrible repair history and costs with my b5 a4 with the 2.8v6, which is what the 2.7v6 is based on. It was constantly in the shop, and no one works on them around here but the dealer. Costs for repairs are unreal. I now have a g35 coupe and i feel that it is one thousand times better. I would also stay away from the s4 and go with the g35. If you get a new one, the MREV mod will get you up to speed and give you really solid accelleration. Trust me on this one! No more German cars for me. Another cool car to consider if you wanted four doors is the new acura tl. Those are pretty nice also.

The turbo'ed 2.7 is notorious for turbo failure. There is an issue where oil can get into the turbines and royally FUBAR them. So switching turbos is easy right? Wrong, you must pull the motor in order to swap them out and that process is not cheap, and neither are the stock OR upgraded RS6 turbos.

Here is an S4 page for you:

http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1407640.phtml

That will show you the usual issues. I wanted an A6 2.7TT and after reading all about the turbo issues and costs associated I ran far...far...far away!

I have driven an 01 S4 and it is a fast car. For a reasonable amount of $$$ you can make it incredibly fast and It handles reall well. But like most have said already it has it problems and will be in the shop a lot. That being said, if your looking more for the reliability as well as some luxury I would go for the G. Good Luck.

I own a G35 coupe a co-worker owns an A6. His car spends more time in the shop then any car I have ever seen. Their mechanical tolerances are outstanding, but electrical sucks.

Everything is about preference. Choose what you like.

Well, coming from a prior German car fan I'd say you'd be better off with the G. I used to be a complete Bimmer dude, until my last Bimmer. My last couple were Bimmers back to back. My last was an '03 M3 with the SMG II tranny. My car spent so much time at the dealer it wasn't even funny. I pretty much got to drive everything in the BMW line up because I always had a loaner car. You'll laugh, but I had my motor, yes entire motor, completely replaced, hold on to your pants boys n girls, TWICE. Yes, twice. Once the engine just plained died and the second time the engine blew up. They wouldn't tell me what happened exactly, only that they'll replace everything free of charge. And after the famed Chris Bangle got his damn Yankee hands on the German design that was it for me.

I'll tell you one thing that people tend to forget easily. Go check out forums for every, any, car out there. You'll see complaints and rants about faults and mishaps regarding their vehicles. But that's to be expected as "these" people live with their cars. As we do with ours. When you live with someone/something you get to learn all the good and bad characteristics and all the "little" things. As such you'll see a lot of specific complaints on this forum, but again you'll find that in any other forum about any other car. I personally have complaints about the G that keep me up at nights (LOL), but I also realize others do too. So I guess it comes down to one that probably influenced all of us initially. That's the bang for the buck aspect of our cars, and IMHO there isn't a car out there that can offer the pure bang for buck and a serious helping of luxury and class that the G offers. If you can find one let me know. My 2 cents.

If you end up with a b5 S4, make sure you have some money set aside for a new pair of turbos.
