05 Coupe 6MT notchy feel question

I notice sometimes when I drive the G everyday to work, the shifting effort between 1st and 2nd becomes really notchy even with the pedal down to the floor. It feels like the gears might scratch if you don't pull it out of gear and push it back in as you're shifting.

My guess is the tranny fluid or the clutch gets really hot and the fluids break down which makes it harder to shift

Then I noticed that if I let the car rest for maybe a day or so in between the times I drive it, it shifts so smoothly with no 1st to 2nd problems or any tranny or clutch slippage. It almost feels like a whole different car when this happens.

Maybe the fluids condensed again to provide better feel?

Does anyone have any similar experiences or know what I am talking about?

mine is like that too. i haven't been able to put it to rest and then try it again but soon i will have the chance and i will look into that. mine is always like that in the first 10 miles i drive it. after that, it just cuts down. its not smooth like butter, but it's a hella lot better than when i started the car.

I think, not sure, it might be because the G uses a hydraulic clutch instead of a cable one. So maybe the densities of the fulid changes due to weather or tempertature. Again, this is just a simple guess. This could possible cause the inconsistencies we feel with the clutch. Anyone else have a better explanation?

has anyone tried Redline MT-90 transmission fluid in their 6spd.

I run it in my max and it made a world of difference -
- no sloppy feeling during extreme cold
- smoother shifting in low gears.

I too suffer from the notchyness in my 1-2 shifts in my G - may switch to it at the same time I switch to M1 at approx 10K miles.

Any thoughts on Redline MT-90 transmission fuild from those that've tried it.

i switched to redline a bunch of months ago hoping it would alleviate the winter shifting problems i had last year. well it didn't. i don't really see any huge difference before and after i switched (it was a little smoother in the warmer months, but nothing to write home about). i would just stick to the nissan grade.

i absolutely hate the 1st to 2nd shift on my 05. 2nd gear is by far the worst one to get into smoothly. I can only get a smooth shift maybe 2 out every 10 times. All the other times, it feels like metal to metal or sometimes it feels like i am hitting something before it goes in. Its does not matter whether I shift super fast or super slow.

I had this prob from day one of owning the car and mentioned it to a dealer when i took in for service and after test driving it they said it was "consistant with other MT coupes". Plus I have a noticeable lag in 2nd, takes longer to shift into then others. Have no idea why. Another funny thing i noticed is that I get a smooth shift into 2nd when I am pushing the car past 3.5K-4K. I dont understand why 2nd gear is so different from others.

This happens for me too.... can it be the synchro? I try double clutching from first to second, and 1 to 2 is smooth.. anybody tried this??

I've never had this problem on my 05 since I got it, so I don't know what to say about it being "consistent with other coupes", and if you guys are really feeling metal to metal shifts, that's not good. I know my gears "click" into gear, but I don't feel any resistance or anything bad. In fact I kind of like the way the car shifts.

Everything is stock except for a Z tube and a Momo shift ****.

I also have the 05 6mt and thought the notchy shift from 1-2 was normal... maybe I should take it in for a check up.

I feel I have similar characteristics in my G as well, I hate the 1st to second shift. Could be that the gear ratio different from first to second is so wide that the engine and tranny rpms are at very different speeds (perhaps to acheive a 60mph 2nd gear so the 0-60 times would be good?) Just a thought.

Next time I got to the dealer I'm going to test drive an 06 to see if it feels the same way. If it does, then I'll feel better that this is how "normal" is.

In mine though, the notchiness goes away if I let the car rest for a day or so.

It only occurs if I drive it too often like everyday or do alot of stop and go commuting.

BG syncroshift > redline

It made quite a bit of difference in my cars notchy feeling. Its kinda hard to find it tho, but well worth the trouble finding it imo.

I just tried double clutching on my EXTREMELY notchy shifter just now and it slid right in as if nothing was there. So does that mean I have faulty synchros?
