Re: front license plate bracket
I am guessing you are referring to the aftermarket bracket that screws into the tow thread hidden behind the bumper. On the center of the front bumper there is a removeable square section about the size of a credit card. When this piece is removed there is a hole that goes trough to the frame of the car. At that point there is a female thread that is used for the tow hitch attachment. The front license plate bracket screws into this same thread and keeps the plate about an inch from the bumper surface. Hope this helps.... if you are talking about the dealer plate bracket.... that one goes on by 2 screws that are drill into the bumper.
Re: front license plate bracket
yeah.. if you're talking about the provided by the dealer, you have to drill into the bumper and i doubt you'd want to do that.. there is the aftermarket bracket like scobic was talking about.. i picked up mine from StrictlyZ.com and it looks clean and was easy to install..
Re: front license plate bracket
Liu69 is so right, the aftermarket bracket at "strictlyZ" is a nice product, very easy to install. There is a picture of it in their website.

Re: front license plate bracket
How about the back bumper? I think the way they designed the back for the license plate to just hang like that is such a cheap and unfinished touch. I just want to take it off.

I've considered the tow hook mounting of the front plate but always come to the same concern....
What happens when you have a fender bender up front with the tow hook mounted plate? Let's see... You mess up the tow hook hole and threads. You're stuck in the ditch with no place to hook on to the car. The wrecker attaches his chain somewhere underneath and causes more damage to your front end than the initial crash itself to pull you out.
Maybe I'm worrying too much about it. If I smashed up my car, I would probably have more important things to worry about...(Like am I hurt, am I at fault and getting sued, etc.)

Re: front license plate bracket
If I get a fixit ticket for no front plate (got that with me MB once), I'll get the tow hook plate to get the ticket cleared, then go back to the clean look of no front plate!
