350Z Hp vs G35C

Okay, Im sure this has been addressed. Whats the differance between the 350Z's 287hp engine and the 280hp G35C engine. Is it all timing ECU differances, manifold differances??? If it is the intake manifiold would it be possible to interchange?

We've discussed that there is a different intake. We do know that!

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

I'd be willing to bet that 90% of the difference is that Nissan wanted the 350Z to have more power than the G35 for marketing image. In other words, most of the difference in these engines is on paper.

Remember that 7hp and 4tq is very little. Also, the Z is quicker because it is lighter. It's not all that much faster though.

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

Here's a comparison. Injen dynoed both the 350z and g35c.

The 350Z had 228.8 HP and 219.7 TQ.
The G35C had 227.2 HP and 220.3 TQ

Not much difference...

G350C - http://www.g35tips.com/mods/dyno/InjenDyno.jpg

However, note that the Z was a 6spd while the G was an AUTO with 19" wheels...

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

I wonder if the A/T was a 6M/T that it would have showed more H/P? Looks to me like it's a toss-up as to which is more powerful. The only variables in these 2 cars are tranny, weight, and 19's. I too think the advertised H/P difference is marketing-- anyway there's probably 5% difference in H/P between engines in the same car!! To say that the Z is more powerful than the Coupe is more theory than anything else.
(IMHO)

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

The auto car will definitely dyno lower than the manual. There is more slippage and loss through automatics. Also you have to question some dyno runs by some companies. What they do, especially on a car with an adaptive ECU like the Z or G is they pull a car on the dyno when the car is cold and the intake has just been put on to get the highest output pull on the dyno as possible to make it look good. Then (especially on our cars) the power will decrease a bit after the ECU adapts (pulls out some timing ect). There is still probably some power increase there but not as much as they claim. Honest companies will show an average of multiple runs or a run that is not the first or second pull on the dyno. I'm not saying Injen does this because I don't know, but it could be the reason why it is a bit higher than the AEM, who I believe posts an average, or a warmed up dyno pull. This is why on another thread I started I am trying to generate interest in a programmable ECU like the AEM EMS plug and play. To get rid of the adaptive ECU.

Yeah, I was guessing that an intake wouldn't raise pwer that much. Especially since the stock unit looks pretty effecient.

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

isnt ths stock airbox resistrictive to keep the Db's down for that Luxury quietness? The CAI in my RSX added alot due to the stock airbox being so restrictive and the ECU's sensitivity to temp

Re: 350Z Hp vs G35C

Nah, the car isn't really all that quiet. Of course, it could be louder and a little less restrictive, but the power gains will be pretty minimal for just and intake. I do know the ECU is pretty restrictive though.
