Obviously I'm not saying that any street application will be as technical as a full-on race application. But, just as race tech has always made its way to street tech, the principle behind clutchless manuals in racing and street is the same, on average the computer is better than the man.

Oh, and the M3 does match rpms, and the G35 also downshifts for you. From the articles I have read, its the stick purists who object to the SMG and that is about it.

thanks for the tidbit, bigel. sounds like a decent compromise for someone who wants a little bit of both worlds.

I have the A/T and use the manual mode to slow down. The only time I notice any 'coast' when downshifting is when I'm about to stop. Other than that last second or two, it works well. I've also noticed that the manual mode seems to respond better at different RPMs. If you shift at those points, you get a faster response. I've actually kicked the rear-end out between 2nd and 3rd..
