New tire question
New tire question
Does anyone know the answer to this? I have 6MT. When I change out the tires, can I go with the larger tires (rear tire size) all around so that I can rotate them? Will they fit on the front?
Re: New tire question
Infiniti specifies that for optimum performance and to prevent problems with the steering that you should not use wider tires on the front. MY opinion is that you might be able to go alittle wider without too many issues, maybe a 235? The thing to remember is that when you add width to the front tires of a rear wheel drive car then the steering and cornering can become less precise. As for the rear tires since they just push and don't steer I think going wider would be no issue at all. Peace.

Re: New tire question
Infiniti designed the car with a stagger (the OD of the front and rear tires is different) For proper handeling and operation of the VDC and ALB. This difference must be maintained. With the 8" wheels we have, you could go with a 240/40 in front and a 255/45 in the rear and still stay close to the stock guidlines. If the rear wheels were wider (9.5") you could use a 275/40 in the rear. In any case rotation is not an option nor is the use of the same size tire front and rear. The only rotation that could be done is a tire dismount and remount switch from side to side. Some have said that due to the severe camber on the "G", they will do this. I think I'll pass however.

Re: New tire question
lowrider, I've got a question. I understand the stagger and the relative maintaining of the ratio should one go up in size due to different sized wheels.
However, I thought I read somewhere that for snows, tirerack was recommending (I haven't spoken to them yet, so this is just my recollection of someone else's post) that even 6MT coupes could go with same size 17" wheels all around and possibly??? same size tires, front and rear. Also, that the VDC and ABS wouldn't be that far off and/or the ecu would take it into account (diff wheel/tire sizes), nor would the speedometer.
Is this my inaccurate recollection? I will probably be calling tirerack in the future since I'll probably want/need snows pretty soon. (Horrible thought, winter is coming up. Gadzooks, it's not even Labor Day!)
Thanks for the helpful thoughts.

Re: New tire question
There was a tire size thread somewhere (I don't remember) where the TireRack rep participated, and had a definite opinion that maintaining the stagger was the right thing to do. With winter tires, I would think this would be more important due to the crappy and slippery nature of the roads. I would also think that you might want to go with 17s for the wheels with the winter tires. That's just my thoughts however. I'm glad that's a problem I don't have. There is no snow in Tucson.

Re: New tire question
The other thing to mention, is that with high-performance rubber such as used on these cars, you will not notice any significant increase in tire lifespan rotating vs. not rotating. They wear out fast anyway.
