Good 30k Service List
OK I know this is somewhat of a repost, but here's a list I complied of the things to do at 30k miles after reading 50 different posts. I tried to filter out all the useless things the dealer wants to do. Anyone think I left anything that is a must do?
Dealer
Change Transmission fluid (If dirty or for "premium care")
Check Steering Alignment, linkage, fluid.
Inspect differential.
perform multipoint inspection
check and top off all fluids
inspect air conditioning systems
adjust tire pressure
inspect exhaust system
inspect steering gear and emission system
check idle speed
inspect fuel and vapor lines
inspect brake caliers, rotors and pads...
coolant flush
Self
Change air filters (in-cabin and intake air filter)
Oil
Dealer

Do they just inspect or do they actually change the differential fluid after 30k? I check the battery and brakes myself so this won't be too bad. The microfilter I'll attempt to change, but the oil I let the dealer change since they don't overcharge too much.
Can you list the rest of the stuff that dealer would try to talk us into doing, I just want to see. I remember my nissan dealer talked me into paying for injectors cleaning at 15K when I had my Maxima.

Full Dealer rip off list Est $600
Replace engine oil and filter
Replace drain plug gasket - Part of basic oil change
Complete Lubrication - ??
Replace Auto Tranny oil - Optional; Only if dirty
Replace climate control seat filters- Garbage
repalce differential oil - Not needed
replace engine air filter - Do this yourself
replace coolant with flush - not needed until 60k - check level yourself
replace engine drive belts - not need until 100k
replace in-cabin micro filter - do this yourself
replace manual tranny fluid - Optional; Only if dirty

You're still going to want to change your tranny/differential fluid at 30k. If you have automatic, you change your tranny fluid every 15k. Coolant flush is also supposed to be done at 30k. And I think you'll still want to inspect your brakes at least.
Skipping things and cutting corners may be cheaper for "right now" but in the long run, it'll end up sticking you. Costing you the same or more and having longer down time etc. Proper maintenance is not something to be overlooked if you care about your car.

My 30 k was ALL fluids replaced , flushed if possible. Dealer politely talked me out of pwr steering flush at the time. I change my own oil. watch brakes myself. Change any filter between dealer and myself. I ask the dealer to check anything that has got unusual sounds or attention whie i have been driving.
I check and watch my tires myself so no suspension work is needed. I do this when I replace tires only since we don't rotate. I replace my wipers myself when I think it is time but using Rain-x not that often. Idle speed is computer controlled I thought, can it be adjusted? The dealer gets enough money from this. My dealer will stll back all warranty from above.
I plan on keeping this rattle trap a long time

that is such a rip...i did my own trans and rear dif flush and change...or you can have it done alot cheaper...in cabin filter is a 15 min job...and the radiator flush can be done at a shop that has a vaccuum system to save time for usually 60 bucks and its cheaper if you bring your own fluid

yes... working for Infiniti, I can say we actually really do A LOT of this stuff. To me, it gets a little annoying everytime I recieve a 30K service.
The coolant system is annoying to bleed, and trans and diff fluid is replaced every 30k service, and the list goes on. It's about 4.5 hr process.
You can save yourself a ton of money if you do it yourself tho. They get you with the labor charge.

My 30K service is coming up and I'm in the process of coming up with a list of what I want the dealership to do.
From what I've gathered so far this is my list:
- Regular oil change
- coolant
- tranny fluid for manual
- differential oil
I also plan on asking them to see how much life I have left on my pads and rotors.
Please let me know if I'm missing anything... Also, any idea what I should expect to pay? I know my dealership wants $599 for the full service; second closest dealership charges $529.

Paying $100/hour for these things are crazy

I called my local Nissan dealership today just to check out their prices and the same $600 service from Infiniti only costs $325.
Anyone see any issues with allowing Nissan to do my 30K service? They were a lot more friendly on the phone and with the price difference I really don't see any reason to go with Infiniti.
