Now why cant everyone just get along??

haha wow.. u give the MINI a LOT of credit there... hehe but i can tell ya you're not too off... I reciently just did a run with M5's, Ferrari 550, Porsche 996tt's, Carrera's and a GT3... yup the brand new porsche GT3 and he gave me credit of how well the MINI handled in the twisties... although he was in break in but still... comming from a GT3 owner... and from the carrera driver was just a "OH SHEEET look at that MINI go!!" he had a hard time keeping up. and that comment was caught on tape too.
But ya that aside... the MINI is a good amount behind in the straight line acceleration from the G35C... but its not POS... as some have said... its a great car... theres NOTHING negative about it besides the straight line acceleration... after 3000RPMs or so the car accelerates fairly well... its no slouch... the quality is exceptional... very nicely done... very solid car...

Re: G35 Coupe vs Mini Cooper S type
Oh ya about the S's supercharger displacing the battery ya... the battery isnt in the engine compartment its in the trunk where the spare would have been... but thats not the only reason why there isnt a spare... the S exhaust takes up more space too so it also leaves no room for a spare.

Re: G35 Coupe vs Mini Cooper S type
Ryoken only stated half the story. The G35 Sedan is in DS, but the Coupe is with the Z in BS. Compared to the Boxster and S2000 in the same class, the G is going to have a hard time. The coupe is a little heavier than the sedan, but only gets 20hp and Brembos to push ahead. If I run mine, I will be running in STX due to the better PAX. The G is a lot heavier than the "sports cars" in BS and it does make a difference in that class. The 330i and 330is are in DS with the G35 sedan, so it is a little strange the coupe got moved up. Also strangely the new performance option on the 330i has raised some eyebrows and also been places in BS when it still doesn't have a limited slip. DS seems to be becoming the LSD class while GS is becoming the non-LSD class.
While this is a side track, one thing that is for sure in GS is that the Cooper S is not dominating at the national level. It has only won 1 Pro Solo and no Tour events. It is definitely not making Celica, Impreza, A4 or Neon drivers thinking about switching. It is also certain by the classing that no individual on the SEB(Solo Exectutive Board) thinks the Cooper S has any chance of keeping up with a G35 driven by a good driver. The Cooper S was in fact moved down from DS because it wasn't competitive and there's no question to its position in GS. The regular Cooper on the other hand is dominating HS. In fact, so much so that the 00' and 01' National Champ, Gerry Terranova, in his Civic Si, was beat by 3 seconds at each a Tour and a Pro event at the beginning of the year. Mark Chiles driving his base Cooper has beaten EVERY Cooper S that has been at the same event. Gerry is now so convinced that he can't keep up with the Minis that he changed to STS. A lot of people have the opinion if the Cooper is that good, the S much be that much better. The problem with this is that the S has almost all its additional 150 lbs extra weight over the base car in its front end. It doesn't turn or transition as well as its lower powered sibling. Only power courses are where the S has an advantage.
As an FYI, I have been autocrossing with the SCCA regularly for the last 3 years and I am a member of the Equipe Rapide board. I just did an SCCA event today. I regularly send proposals or rule revisions to the SEB and believe it or not, about half go through(my name has been in Fastracks bulletins a couple of times). If anyone ever has some rule questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Re: G35 Coupe vs Mini Cooper S type
Wow!!! Thanks for your informative post. I am not buying a Mini. Just share a thought when I saw and sat in a Mini in person. I know the G is much better in some aspect. But for the money, the Mini-S is not a bad choice. Like someone mentioned, 3-5K, the Mini can eat the G for breakfast. I am no expert in the mods filed, but that doesn't sound too bad for that little car. I know they're not in the same class, but I found it's interesting what that little can do.

Re: G35 Coupe vs Mini Cooper S type
Even 25 years ago when I saw a MINI I thought, "Man, that's a cool little car!". A few years later, when I bought my second car (a 1979 Honda Civic), I kinda felt like I'd bought one. Of course the Civic was a bit bigger, but it was still that fun handles-like-a-dream shoebox feeling. If the G was outside my budget (and now that I have one, sometimes I feel it was), I'd consider a MINI Cooper S in a heartbeat.
As for being a "girl's car" - that's just sexist baloney. Personally, I wouldn't want a Beetle Convertible, because I'm not fond of the looks, nor the cheapie 1-inch thick seats & doors, but just because a lot of girls drive 'em, doesn't mean it's a girl's car. No, when it's PINK, then it's a girl's car...

Re: G35 Coupe vs Mini Cooper S type
Yeah, as a "girl's car" owner, I find that rather amusing. Especially when it comes from guys who drive Mustangs, a higher percentage of which are bought by women than Miatas. Any guy who enjoys driving (notably the part that involves turning the steering wheel) can appreciate a small car with a well-tuned suspension.
You know what are really "girl's cars"? SUVs. Every woman I know cites the whole "I like to sit up high" thing when I propose any alternative. I think it taps into that weird obsession with horses many of them get when they're little girls. They may identify with cute little cars, but in the end they still want a pony.
(Resident female G drivers may consider themselves exempt from this broad generalization.)
