Raced an RX8
Raced an RX8
I saw one on the freeway.. It looks pretty sweet, (I was trying to decide between the two but chose the G35 C because of the excellent engine and the classic coupe styling.)
anyway, I saw him in my rearview and was wondering what it was, the closer it got I started to recognize it. It pulled beside me and then I heard him down shift I was going about 70. So I downshifted also and went for it. The RX8 was pulling away at first (probrably because he downshifted first). When I reached abour 5800 RPM I started to pull up on him. I shifted in to 4th and pulled up beside him. Then we both slowed down and I pulled off on the next exit ramp.
I would love to catch one at a stop light.

Good run Kahboom. Sounds like those little rotaries are quick for their size. If you run one from a standstill, he'd have to drop the cluch at 8k to match your acceleration, and even at that I don't see how he'd match your torque.
Would be an interesting race, but I still think the G would edge it out.

High revs and less weight can definately compesate for a lack of torque/power, though.
The nice thing about rotaries is you can't really over-rev them. There are no piston rods to throw.

True. I had two RX7s, an '84 and an '86 and they'd go to the 7K RPM redline and be like "redline? What's a redline?". I heard that the only reason those cars were redlined a 7K was to protect things like the alternator and water pump...
