Scratches on sill panel
Scratches on sill panel
I brought my car in to Frontier Infiniti off of Steven's Creek in Santa Clara, CA. I wanted to have the grease streak fixed. I also told them that I wanted to have some scratches looked at on the driver's side door sill panel (the shiny piece that says INFINITI). I think my door is causing it to get all scrated up and it is beginning to look bad. The scratches are so close to the hing side (front of car) that it could not be from rocks on my shoes or anything. I suspect the culprit are some plastic burs on the bottom of the door.
When I got my car back nicely washed, the work order said that the tech cleaned the rollers (they were not replaced with new parts as the TSB mentions) and it said customer complains of scratches on from rocker panel, please check and advise. There was nothing written there and no one ever "advised" me. I was already late for work so I drove off. There were some 15 people waiting there for service.
There was a little sticker and a survey card asking me to please rate their service excellent. If I could not for any reason, the sticker said, I should call the service manager.
Should I simply call the manager and tell him? Should I call Infiniti? Do you think they will replace the sill panel for me?
I am asking only because I don't want to seem too unreasonable here. Thanks!

Re: Scratches on sill panel
Hey...
I have that same problem (and I am so **** about my car, I know it is not me who is leaving those scuff marks on that particular panel). I kept telling the service guy that the door was causing these scratches. He kept saying that that piece was there to basically take the scratches. I mean, he said it was supposed to get all scratched up. I didn't want to argue and look like an ***, but the fact is that shiny piece of metal w/ the I N F I N I T I emblazed on it shouldn't scratch in my opinion. I know for a fact the door is causing it to scuff when opening/closing but I give up. Let me know if you find any resolution to this problem.

Re: Scratches on sill panel
call the service manager.
i had an incident @ my dealer with them rotating my uni directional tires and scratching my rims with their impact gun on my first service. so i had to lose 3 hours of work to bring my car back for them to put the wheels on right. i never got a sticker stating about calling the service manager. so i rated them poorly on the survey but i kept it professional and the next time i went in they were real carefull with my car and took good care of it, and then they mentioned about the poor rating i gave them on their survey. then he said that he has had the shop foreman work on my car since that incedent!

Re: Scratches on sill panel
Are you sure you aren't seeing scratches in the very thin plastic that covers the sill for protection? I thought I had scratches as soon as I got home from the dealer but realized there is a thin covering that is easily removed. It's the same as the protection you see on lens when purchased. Take a look... hope this helps. If it is, maybe you should educate your dealer.
Once the cover is removed, you're on your own as far as protecting the actual metal. I've heard some owners have this covered when they have a clear bra installed, but that plastic could be scuffed and scratched also.

I have the same problem with mine and unfortunately I took the plastic covering off when I brought it home, so the only thing that I can think of is replacing the panels when they get too scratched

I noticed the soft plastic covering (similar to the stuff often found on display panels on consumer electronics) on the doorsill only recently, and was about to peel it off when I thought better of it and decided not to since it actually looks ok with it on. It'll probably look bad after a while though, since it's so soft.

Re: Scratches on sill panel
I have the exact same problem of fine scratches running across the rocker panel, especially on the drivers side door. These are not scractches from your feet or getting in/out of the car. They have to be coming from the bottom of the door panel. This is total BS if the dealer says they are supposed to take scratches. I have a Lexus SportCross with alumimum rocker panels at all 4 doors and the hatch and in almost 2 years not a single scratch!
I expect Infiniti to do something or replace these panels. And maybe leave the plastic covering on next time or have them adjust the door. If anyone else has this problem, please complain to the dealer service department so Infiniti will get the message.

I never thought about the clear plastic film. I thought I scratched my NAV screen a while back as well- then I noticed the plastic and was relieved. I guess I will rate tehm poorly and then call the service manager. Ideally I would like to have the door adjusted so it doesn't scratch and have the panels replaced...I guess I am overly optimistic from the sound of your posts...

Re: Scratches on sill panel
Aquinas... Did you pull the thin film off? I don't think it is intended to be permanent. It may be that the door won't scratch your sill at all, but the plastic is really thin and flimsy. Let us know... I may have my sills covered with clear bra film (.006) if the installer thinks it would help.

Re: Scratches on sill panel
OK, it is official- I am an idiot. However I am not a complete idiot. There is a clear film on there still. It really amazes me how hard it was for me to get off. It was on so well I could hardly get an edge up to pull it off. I am happy to say that my sills re not scratched, but the little plastic burrs on the bottom of the door could potentially scratch them if I don't file them down a little.
I looks like I will be in good shape afterall. I think I will have the clear bra installed on the front of the car very soon. I too believe that getting it applied to the sills is a great idea...I am **** about scratches anywhere...

Re: Scratches on sill panel
Aquinas... I'm happy for you! I know the feeling! I saw the same "scratches" within an hour of leaving the dealer, and couldn't think about anything else until a day or two later when it occurred to me there could be a protective film. What a relief! I have removed it and have not seen any scratches from the door. So far, so good...
