New G35 driver needs help

Hi guys,
Just bought a 06 G35C 6MT a couple of days ago and I love it. I have been “snooping” around the forums and reading most of the current posts, and for the most part they are great. I especially love reading about BMW v. Infiniti because I traded an E46 3-series for the g35 coupe and have not regret yet. I love everything about the car except for one thing—the ulgy stock BIG-RIG shift ****. It is by far the worse design I have ever used. I would like to change it with a Momo Competition chrome ****, but can not for the life of me remove the stock one. From all of the posts I have read (mostly from the Z forums) it’s pretty much glued on and I need to wait for a hot day or take a hair dryer to it to twist it off. I was wondering if you guys had a better way or a better recommendation. Pictures with step by step directions would be ideal. I would like to do this right because I don’t want to damage the transmission linkages etc.

Like I said, noobie question.

Thanks amigos!

yes there is a little glue.. i drove the hell out of my car and it actually got loose around 8-10,000 miles.. but if its new.. get a nice terry cloth or something thick and a crescent wrench and use that to break it free.. after that it is a screw on with a little washer type thing in between.

or just use a hair dryer and heat it up then twist..

Thanks!

The pictures and step-by-step instructions are great! Thank you again. I wonder why the hell did they glue the ugly **** on there. It's almost like they wanted to you have a crappy **** forever! HA! Well found out I did the one thing the instructions said not to do--twist off without holding the bottom of the shift level, oops. Hopefully no "internal damage" was cause from my frustrated actions.

Hopefully you didn't damage the tranny. And I like the tip in the instructions to use a piece of radiator hose to protect the ****.

This one is for the Bunny

I have owned all manual tranny cars all of my life (including the BMW) and none of them was ever glued and none of them ever came off; even in heated moments of power shifting and heal-toeing. When a **** is threated and screwed on it will not come off unless you screw it counter clock wise. Natural shifting will not make it come off, ever.
