Re: AT tranny ques....

Used properly, no, although you'll get the normal extra wear and strain from higher revs and engine-braking. You may want to avoid manually downshifting from 2nd to 1st as it usually clunks rather badly and sounds unhealthy. Just let it drop down to 1st automatically when your revs drop too low. Also, you may want to switch to a better transmission fluid if you're planning on driving around a 6600 rpms all day, just to be safe.

From page 8-10 of the owner's manual:

Using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine Nissan ATF Matic Fluid J will cause deterioration in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic transmission, which is not covered by the INFINITI new vehicle limited warranty.

Use alternatives at your own risk.

Re: AT tranny ques....

I've heard that other people are using synthetic tranny fluid without incident. I myself am a stickler for going by the book (only mineral-based oil for me), but I question whether standard Nissan fluid "J" is formulated to withstand frequent running near redline (which is not what automatics generally do). I have a feeling the tranny runs hot in general, judging from the rice krispies sounds coming from under my car when I'm done driving.

But the caveat is well-noted. Definitely don't swap out fluids unless you've got an Infiniti service center on the hook to take the blame.
