DEALER claims Z-Tube/K&N causes excess fuel comsumption

Just got a call from the dealer stating that the car is getting terrible gas mileage due to the Ztube and K&N filter. I laughed at them and told them that this was put on the car 7K miles ago and only now has the gas mileage decreased.
The Car is all stock 05 coupe A/T

Explain the whole story, you gave your car into the dealer to complain about excessive bad gas mileage?

17 on highway... are you driving at like 90mph?!
cause even at 80 + cruise control, you can get like 25mpg

I hate dealers, they make up the worst bull****, a good dealer story I have is with my evo the HID bulb blew, and I went to get it fixed under warrenty, so I sat at the dealer for like 2 hours because they are retards, and they told me they couldnt fix it because the reason the bulb went bad was because someone backed into me or I crashed the car, but no one ever backed into me, and I never crashed, and I oculd tell because there are no scratches on the car or whatever so they tried to charge me 160 bucks for labor, and I didnt pay it so then they called the cops on me. dealers suck, but thank god I havnt had these kind of problems with my infiniti dealer

Both items won't affect mileage. I've done the same mod and my mileage if anything, as gone up. But if you could always replace the K&N with the oem one (if you still have it) and track the mileage again. Maybe too late as the car is already at the dealer.

If you have navi, you can replace the filter and keep tracking the mileage. Than the dealer can plainly see, there's no difference. The resonated mid pipe is just there for noise reduction. I can't believe a dealer would even try to make a stink about that. I guess dealers think all of us are idiots

My dealer has had my car for new brakes, new back bumper (with paint) and a new steroe head unit since last tuesday... I'm practically the only modded G in the west palm area.. so im sure they are just driving my car around.

But yeah no cops yet

Dirty fuel injectors? Clogged fuel filter? A bad batch of gas could cause these things to happen.

Not try to sound like an smart a$$ but what do you think dealership gonna say? more importanly what were you hoping to accomplish when you bring it to dealership for bad gas mileage? I am probably the most mechanically challenged person around, but what can dealership do for the poor gas mileage under warranty?...among other things like fuel injectors/fliters maybe low tire presure/leaking fuel somewhere? but still, what can/should dealer do?

i around hearing stories about people complaining about little things in almost every car model and you have to realize that the gasmileage will get better after 15k miles when the motor is fully broken in and you have to just tap the gas to get good gas mileage.

If his car is suffering from sudden poor fuel economy, that's a valid reason to complain assuming he's not driving the thing any differently and it's been doing it over several tanks of gas. Possibly he needs to replace his oxygen sensors or something of that nature. I'd investigate all the obvious and simple things first though, some of which have already been mentioned by others. Tire pressure, Air Filter cleanliness and potential intake clogs, Make sure your oil is not excessively old, use premium fuel, and make sure none of your calipers are sticking.

Has the car had any decreased power, or is it just fuel economy that's dropped?

If power has decreased as well, there could be a whole bunch of potential problems.

Since i got my Z-tube and popcharger my mileage went down significantly...from about 17.6(not good) to around 11!!!!... but that is because the Popcharger and Z-tube causes a strange disease where the right foot is uncontrolable and unable to keep the car < 5K whenever humanly possible haha
