My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! I go to lunch yesterday at a local mall. A daily event, every freakin day I do this but yesterday would be different. I go to my car and there is a not eon the windshield. It is from a different person than the one who HIT my car while backing out. This good samaritan saw some little punk *** back out of his spot and hit the back of my car. The kid knew he hit my car, stopped for a sec and then kept going scraping the back right corner of my bumper. The corner is dented way in and the paint is scraped off. Luckily the person who saw it got a license plate number and I was able to file a report. Here is the catch, my deductible is $1000 and at this point with my insurance history is not worth filing. So I have to pay for this out of pocket and hope that I can sue this kid's insurance company. How *** backwards is this. Does anyone have an idea of how much a rear bumper is gonna run me. I have a friend who can install and paint it. I am just curious as to what this si gonna run me. Thanks for help folks. Be Safe.

Sorry to hear about that man. Well, just to give you an idea on the paint job, without a hookup. i paid about $772 out of my pocket to paint and repair the whole rear bumper and the rear 1/4 panel. Some little punk got jealous and keyed my car last month with i was chillin with surewin. But this body shop that i went to, does very good work so the price was worth it. With your friend working there, you shouldnt be paying more than i did. but make sure you get warranty on the whole job.

You have the license number of the perp. Do you have a contact for the witness/samaritan? I'd get on that immediately. You have an excellent case against the guy who hit you, and possibly even more ammo against him since he split the scene. Get on it and you'll get your repairs covered, maybe more.

If there are any lawyers in this group, I pass the baton to you...

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

Call the guy and give the problem to him. Don't request anything or demand anything. See what he offers. If he offer doesn't fairly compensate you, tell him that you are considering filing a hit-and-run report including criminal charges and also considering filing a civil action to cover your damages and expenses. If this doesn't losen up his purse strings, file a police report immediately since this will be vital documentation in your civil case and then file a civil claim against him. Then call again to see if he wants to work out a deal. All of this can be done without an attorney and with the witness's statement you have a very strong case and probably don't need representation for a small claims court. If he is unwilling to work with you, stick it to him. Stick to the facts. Don't go with an attorney unless you are unsure of your arguments - no reason to part with 33% of your claim!!

Good luck!!

Seeing as the kid hit-and-ran, he's probably going to say it wasn't him that hit you and refuse to pay for it. You should just call the cops and file a report. Also, I was in the SAME EXACT situation about a month ago, I made the report and the other persons insurance company paid for all the repair costs without affecting my insurance rates at all.

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

I filed a police report immediately. The witness who left the note though did not leave any of their info so I cannot contact them which sucks. The cop shave to find the guy, prove he did it and then I have to sue his insurance. So right now I am out of about 800 bucks. the bumper is only 250 dollars which isnt bad at all. Labor hopefully wont kill me. We shall see. I am praying that maybe the body shop can just pop it out and repaint it. Everyone keep fingers crossed for me.

Since the witness didn't leave their info, you should have told the cops you witnessed it as you were walking back to your car, but by the time you started it and tried to catch him he was gone.
You also might wanna check to see if there were any security cameras on the lot that might have caught it.

Well the investigator just called me and said he is on his way to the person's house. The car is registered to an older person which probably means the car was being driven by a son or grandson. The investigator said that he will check the car for any damage that came from hitting mine and he will try to get back to me later today. Keep 'em crossed folks. this is important.

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

I would think if he is convicted of this crime. Wouldn't his insurance or his parents insurance have to pay for the damages done to your ride. At least in VA. thats how things work.

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

700 bucks that obserd! You got ripped off. Okay look... to paint 2 panels should cost you about $500 the most. That's $250 the MOST EACH PANEL! Anyone who pays more is going to someone overpriced. Also, the rear bumper costs $about $270 but you will need bumber foam becuase that is probably broken and maybe even the bumper housing. If the housing isn't broken a good body shop should charge you about $700 for all of the parts and labor.

If anyone needs a good guy to do their body work and they are in NJ call A&D Auto body in Lenoia, NJ. The guy Dom that owns it has been doing my cars and my parents cars for 25 years. He paits great and he has GREAT PRICES! Well worth the money. He even hooked me up with some tips and compound. I think he does details too.

Tell him Joey Avino sent you.

Thanks - Joey Avino

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

I feel your pain. I was parked on the street in manhattan a while ago over night. somebody backed into me while they were pulling or or something and put a cracked a piece on the inside of the headlight went to the dealer they told me it was a $600 part. right now just leaving it cause it's not causing any problems. anybody have any suggestions. I think my deductible is either 500 or a 1000 so it's really not worth it for a lousy $100

Re: My Coupe Got Hit and Run On

Same thing happened to me on my old SHO. A kind samaritan left a note and his contact info, so I pulled the address of the offendor from the DMV database, called her up and told her that I had a witness who could describe both driver and car, and that if I didn't have full compensation within 3 days, they would hear from my lawyers. It worked... my deductible is $150, so insurance would have covered the bulk, but I just hate filing reports for something so simple.
