dofu, good point about the stickers. Maybe its not a 1 to 1 relationship. But the spirit of his equation makes sense - its about priorities. Stickers = prioritizing looks over value of the car and performance.

I think you're wrong about the people who are trying to make some power with an intake and exhaust tho. Wanting to stay NA and still make some performance gain is very classy - not ricey at all (resorting to FI or spray is reminicent of what ricers do). Thinking that an intake is gonna do anything drastic, might be misinformed, but definitely not ricey. On the other hand, knowingly adding an intake/exhaust strictly for sound is ricey - because you are increasing the value spent on appearance (sound gives the appearance of power) and you are spending money on performance [or at least you think you're not, that's why I added the mental (mens rea) element of 'knowingly'].

I can almost agree with your statement about the exhaust and intake... alot of people change their intake and exhausts for sound, period... if you want performance, get cams and valvetrain, LSD, build your block, build your tranny, get suspension/chassis so you can enter and exit the turns faster, do something... there are tons of mods cheaper or in the similar price range of an cat-back exhaust that will give you more performance that is overlooked by alot of the people here. If you really wanna mod your exhaust for more power without building the block to put the new larger exhaust piping diameter to use, take out the stock cats at the least... I was mainly talking about the people who respond to posts named "How Do I Make 300hp N/A" with a bs response like "Stillen intake, Stillen exhaust, Crawford cats" ... get new pistons, cams, valvetrain and tune! Forget the bs...

@dofu
some of us dont have the means to do all that (FI and stuff) but are still modding enthusiasts
or just dont want to drop that kind of money in our car

I for one was going to go FI and the whole nine yards
then the GT-R was announced.. and I stopped dead in my tracks with just my Short Ram...
I'm going to add my Stillen exhaust system, just to complete the set.. and that's it... it'll give me noticeable gains (I hope)

the spirit of the guy's equation is right as someone mentionned earlier
I didnt concur cuz for example, my G cost me a ***** load more than what most people paid (damn customs fees in this country [lebanon] charge 100% interest on every car, and we the customers get the crap end of the stick)
so according to his theory, I could spend a ***** load more on ricy objects than u guys and still not be considered rice whereas u guys would be.. yet we have the same car
but like I said.. the overall message he is trying to go with.. I agree

obviously the guy is a bit of an extremist...

rear spoilers work the same on ALL types of vehicles, FWD or RWD. When you're zooming along at 100 mph, all that downforce on your hood and windshield creates a low pressure region around the back of ANY vehicle, thus creating a need for compensation. ----> a spoiler counteracts with the downforce needed to keep all 4 wheels where they need to be.

does anyone else agree???

I didn't say there's anything wrong with modding your car for whatever reason you're modding it. It's just when you believe those bs mods like an intake and exhaust is gonna make huge power by itself is when you're crossing the line into being a ricer, much like how you look at the ricers who think those ugly body kits with custom paint and all those stickers make their cars fast...

I agree, but when you have a spoiler or two or three that makes the car look like it's gonna take off and hit mach 3, you're doing a bit too much...

It is funny... but he's sort of a loser for putting so much time into hating on a group of people. I am not a fan of ricers but when I was in high school with my very first honda, I did some things to it where I look back and I am embarrassed today but it WAS cool back then over a decade ago. That was before "Fast and the Furious" days and before racing became commercial.

Whenever I modded my cars, I have done it as simple and as clean as possible. No crazy kits, no wings, no crazy paint jobs, etc... I think it's a matter of personal taste so to each his own. Yes, I cringe at some of the cars I see on the road and in pics that look so tacky but it's like clothing. Not everyone dresses alike and you may not like the way someone is dressed but they may not like the way you are dressed. But when it comes down to it, who cares what other people do with their stuff. If it's funny to you then laugh but just don't be a fawkin hater about it...
