350Z's have Projector Headlights?

I was just looking through a 350Z brochure and I see that the xenon's that come with the 350Z look like they are projector types. While the ones in the G35's are reflector.

Whats up with this? Or am I just blind?

Yes the 350z definately has them. Why they didn't put them on a higher end car I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the height of the vehicle. All I know is that the G's HID's are pretty weak and projectors would help quite a bit. I'm trying to find a company that sells something after market that I could use but nothing yet. Sheesh! Oh well guess that's one of the cost reducing items that makes such great car such a good deal compared to the competition. Peace.

This was one of the reason why i didn't like the G in the first place.. I wanted my next car to have projector and was very disappointed when the G didn't get them.. i was hoping the 2004 would get the upgrade but err.. if get the 2004 and the 2005 get the projector upgrade, i would be one **** off buyer..

Yeah my guess is it may have something do do with the appearance/layout of the G's light...I would imagine the cost difference is probably negligible.

Re: 350Z's have Projector Headlights?

Actually from what I understand the cost increase could be considerable. This is because I've been told that all projectors are required to have some type of self leveling mechanism by law. This to prevent accidents on inclined roads from on coming traffic caused by the intense discharge of projector lamps. I think we have all had it happen for a split second when an oncoming S2000 or Audi hits a bump and the direct beam hits you in the eye. Just a thought though, anyone heard anything differant. I also heard that is why technically all after market HID systems WITH projection housings are illegal since I have never seen a kit with a self levelinh mechanism. Peace.

Gotcha, didn't think they had to be self-leveling.

Re: 350Z's have Projector Headlights?

They do not have to be self leveling, i worked for a company called TYC, the leader in aftermarket lamps. Nearly all projectors were not leveling, only in Hi-End vehicles, will have self leveling motors to adjust the beams such as BMWs. DOT/SAE only cares for the beam direction and proper color in lighting such as orange turn signals.
A projector lens has a metal peice behind the lens that cuts the beam in half, thats why projectors have a flat line/straight cut beam going across from left to right. if it did not have that, the beam would go up into the on coming driveers eyes. pretty much to put it in simple terms, the projector lens, 180 degrees of the top of the lense has a light shining thru it to stop the beam from shining up. i to do wish the G had it to but im still happy with what we have, lots of poeple luv our lights.
geoff

I think Infiniti could’ve used the bi-xenon projectors from the Nissan Murano. They have manual leveling control on the dash that allows you to adjust the height of the beam, which is a lot cheaper than auto level adjusting headlights.

Re: 350Z's have Projector Headlights?

**DROOL** MMMM.... S4. hmmm. So I wonder if price and safety weren't the issues then why wouldn't nissan/infiniti use the same projector system that's on the Murano/FX35. Doesn't make sense to me. Hmmm. I wonder if there is any way I can "adapt" those projectors to our housings? I know that I would have to cut the bulb reflector off. Maybe I could buy another set of housings. Blah! Forget it I'm lazy. I 'll just wait till something after market hits.

Re: 350Z's have Projector Headlights?

Can't we just change to aftermarket 6000k bulbs?
- For better, wider lighting than our stock HID bulbs.

Or am I missing something?
