u may be right ... i don't know, i'm not a gas expert. but reading more on octane at howstuffworks also backs up the original quote on octane ratings. they also state 87 octane gas = 87% octane. where have u read that it does not?

 

i dont know why you would buy this car and then not put the required gas in it...............if you dont want to put premium in, then go get a civic or somethin

 

well knowing that grubbs uses reg gas in ALL their cars that sit in their lot says something...

 

Using regular really doesnt save you a whole lot when you think about it. I think it might come out to $100-200 a year but to me, it's not worth risking anything going on the motor. Stick with 93 and you'll be fine.

On a side note, at least this is a reasonable question...I love it when people ask if they should put race gas in their NA Gs. Maybe we should all just run C16...

 

I've had my Coupe for nearly three years, and I never experienced knocking or any engine problems.

If the cheap gas caused my power window motors to fail, then you're onto something.

 

If you use LEADED race gas in any motor with an O2 sensor u will need to replace the sensor or SENSORS in our vehicles.

 

Why does every thread where someone tries to save a buck always have to have post 'downers' chastising us for not throwing away our money with total disregard? Ridiculous, if you have so much money why aren't you hanging around in the Porsche 911 turbo forums???

Most reputable sources I find (not including car and oil companies) say that the premium is a total scam. Now with that being said...I still put in the premium! Why? Because the little tag next to the gas tank tells me to and I don't want to "risk it." So don't be haters, the question is worth asking.

 

Higher Octane is NOT the only thing you get in premium fuel. Most of the times, you get extra little things added to your gas to keep your fuel system clean,etc. you might also notice that your oil stays cleaner
for a difference of a few cents, its definitly worth using premium over regular.

 

93 octane is the only thing that goes in my Coupe

 

Don't forget, Japan's fuel is rated at a higher octane, meaning our Premium is closer to their regular. That's why it's not just japanese sports cars that require premium. Their sedans generally do as well. There has been a recent change in this, somewhat, but it still holds true for the most part.

We tend to have good gas here in TX (compared to CA), but it's getting hard to find anything over 91 octane around here. Premium used to be 93.

Since 91 is all the G has seen, I've resorted to using an octane booster (with, more importantly for me, a fuel stabilizer) every other tank or so. With the heat on it's way, I'll rely on it for 2-3 extra octane points to ease combustion.

 

93 octane here. Why risk it to save a couple of bucks?

If you have to worry about gas, then G35 coupe isn't right for you.

 

do the math. what the hell is a few hundred bucks a year???
