It's not completely pointless. The UTQG rating measures the rate of treadwear against a DOT "standard" tire rated at 100. In theory, this should translate to meaningful cross-comparisons between brands. However, the reality is that the standard and the conditions under which the testing is performed are nowhere near as stringent as they should be, reducing -- but not eliminating -- the value of comparing the treadwear ratings of tires from different manufacturers.

I have just under 15K Km's or about 9400 miles on my PS1s. I estimate I will get about another 5-8k km or 3-5k miles on them, so consider your mileage on the Bridgestones as excellent. If you ask your dealer they will likely confirm that for you. As to the treadwear ratings they are nearly meaningless across brands and even within the same brand. As others have said the PS2 is a soft performance summer tire and it is doubtful it will offer any anything better than what you have now. If mileage is your concern find a much lower performance tire- an all season touring type.

Mine lasted 28K I believe. And the rears were pretty bald.

I replaced all 4 tires at 7,300 miles! That's right....I have 17s with the RSAs and the middle treads on the rears were past 2/32nds while the outsides still had plenty of meat. The fronts were great. After 13,000 miles I replaced all 4 tires again, this time with Avon 550 A/S. All the tires were paid for by the dealer because they are aware of the premature wear problem with all coupes with 17s and 18s. The 17s with the Goodyears are by far the worst in mileage. Most owners are not even aware of this problem unless the dealer tells them or they get down on their knees and inspect the rear tire centers. The Rims on the 17s and 18s are TOO NARROW to accomodate the wider tires. I have a paper trail with Infiniti Consumer affairs so they are replacing my tires as long as they keep wearing out so soon. I'm not sure if the 19s have the same problem. As long as they keep giving me tires, I am not complaining. I get a new set every year. I don't drive more than 6,000 miles a year and I drive conservatively. I assume the Avons will give me more miles as they are rated 360.

I have 17's as my winter wheels with the all season on (bought them used, wil replace with snows eventually) and i just took them off yesterday. I noticed the center tread is hugely worn compared to the rest of the tire. Im tihnking maybe that was due to having to much air in the tire. I went with the recommended number in the driver door (35 psi all around), but since the car came with 19's im thinking I should run more aorund 30 on my winters.

It's probably your driving habbits

the stock tires are NOT very wide. Hell, after a few months I swapped to 275s (firehawk sz50 EPs) out back. Now they have HORRIBLE thread life regardless of vehicle application, but i've got ~8000miles on my 2003 coupe and they're not even half way worn out.

Given how a lot of threads are like 'how do I do burnouts' 'how do I spin the 1st through 1st gear' 'how do i launch at the drag strip' 'thank god for VDC! i took a 30mph turn at 70mph and almost spun out' it's not that hard to imagine driving habits on average here. I'm well aware of the shorter than average tire life problem, but not even getting 7000miles is not solely the car's problem.

I have the OEM Bridgestone RE050A 19" also. I've got 11k miles and the tread looks like at least 50% left. I drive mostly on the freeway and have only broken the rears loose a couple of times.

my OEM bridgestones have only 3kmiles on them and they look pretty worn. The tires have never spun and the only hard driving I do is when going on the onramp...but I don't floor it and shift at ~5k is that even considered hard driving.

242 miles - bought the car on a Saturday and that's how many miles I drove it until Monday when I had them swapped for Michelin SP2's!

I wish I could agree with you about my driving habits. I am a 56 year old "old timer" and my daughter usually has to prompt me to move faster than a crawl. There are numerous threads about this problem out there. Tirerack will verify the short life of Goodyear RSAs. When I wait for my car at service and walk around the lot looking at cars that are in service, I am amazed of how many of the Coupes with stock rims, with 17s(the worse culfprit) and 18s have excessive middle tread wear on the rears. (I have no evidence of the 19s having this problem) The service manager acknowledges he sees this all the time. Many of those who have changed the rims to aftermarket ones don't experience this issue at all. Of Course the Sedans don't either (they have narrower tires). Anyway, I'm sure after talking to those who have tried the Avon 550 A/S on their coupes I can at least expect 15,000 miles on the rears before the middles hit 2/32nd. For me that is fine since that will equate to 3 more years of driving (5,000 miles per year of driving). No car is perfect and I will live with it especially since there is no out of pocket expense.
