Making a extra Key and Alarm Fob question
How much does it cost to make an extra key and fob.
I went to Dealership and I was told I had to make an appt
to get a key made.. WTF
And if i tried to get any other place to do.. the car will
shut down and it will need to be towed to Infiniti..
Is this true?

When I was at a local dealership the other day, I was told getting another key made would cost $$$. I was told that there is a built-in microchip on the key. It is a lighter gray colored rectangle located on the key itself. The vehicle will not start if this microchip is not present. I guess if you duplicated the key's shape, but didn't have a specially programmed microchip, the car is programmed to shut down.
I think the quote on a replacement key was ~$100.

Yep thank Infiniti for their anti-theft chip. Hey don't complain cuz it's the difference between a thief jacking your car or not. If you really want another key, I'd go to a less traffic Infiniti dealer and have them send out the order. Not sure if Infiniti but with Honda, all they need is your VIN#. As for the key fob, buy one off ebay and reprogram it yourself.

My previous car had this feature. My local Pontiac dealership wanted ~$100 to get it done. I got the key codes from this dealer for my specific key (this is recorded with your VIN) and then had a friend at another GM dealership cut it for the cost of the key (less than $10). I couldn't have my friend just do it, he is at another GM brand dealer and did not have access to the key code info--only that brand's dealership has it.
Point is, if you know someone at a Nissan dealership, they can prolly cut it for you cheaper. The cost is high (I believe) to make it more difficult to get so that someone doesn't steal the car. You'll have to show ID on top of have your title to even get it cut.
