canyon runs....

like pretty much everyone is saying... it depends on how good of a driver you are... please be honest... and how well you know your car. If you dont feel safe then dont over-do it.... dont be affraid to push it either though. I've done quite a few canyon runs...mostly with my subaru/gc8/awd and then before that i had a 93 civic si with insane suspension. Those two cars were great for canyons.. The G is like 1k lb's heavier though so just be careful...

GO DURING DAYLIGHT----assume you would

P.S. If i could murder my vdc i would :-)

when i had the 05 6mt, took it for a couple of canyon runs. The car feels good too me. Yeah it is heavy and it's not a purist's definition of a sports car, but it holds its own.

The suspension was pretty good for stock (sports), turns in good, but as long as you don't enter the turn too fast and be smooth with your trottle input, you'll have it in check. It is much more enjoyable when you take the turn in at a moderate speed and then come out of the turn near the limit.

I've run the malibu canyons at night, tried running the canyon by moonlight and by the lane bumps. hahaaa... this was when i was 18 and invincible, or so i thought. Don't worry, only ran for several seconds w/o lights at a time. Still, stupid as hell but a damn crazy rush. Now that i'm a little bit older and a bit wiser, i will never do it again.

If you are not familiar with the roads and car limits, I would not turn off the VDC. For most of us, it will be our own ability that limits our driving. So keep it safe... you don't become a touge expert overnight.

PLEASE DO NOT TURN OFF VDC!!! especially on the canyons.. sharp uphill turn will probably take out 80% of the guys here on this forum

Just got back from gmr right now and the car feels extremely stable, but I'm just getting use to the rwd thing so i'm always thinking in my head (the back end is gonna swing out!) lol and it happeneD! Going through a pretty sharp turn and mid turn TONS of gravel and my friend and I took a gasp of air , with VDC on the back end swings more than I thought it would with the vdc on but it corrected it and off we went with me almost having a heart attack in my brand new 06 g! Wasn't really pushing the car too hard, just trying to get the feel of it. Oh yeah and at the top of the mountain there was a sherrif the sent me back down the mt as soon as i arrived

hahahaha... if you are on gravel you need to treat it like you are on ice... pretty much zero traction especialy with the stock wheels...

nothing like feeling the G's on an uphill tight turn... gotta love gravity.... defintiely a rush... in my civic i used to have some of the wheels lift off the grown.

hehe

The VDC kicks in on turns that arent too aggressive. But then again I do have 275s on the rears so they grip a bit more. I did an Ortega run that wasn't too fast or slow an the car is just magnificent. Driving it to Bear is fun too! Up or down it's all good. Very nice corners on the upper half of the mountain.

i went canyon racing at the GMR with a bunch of modified s14's - completely prepped for racing (roll cage, gutted, illegal japanese motors, suspension). And a few other cars. I was bone stock 05 6mt (rev-up motor, sport suspension). I stayed with them pretty easily, even pulled a little bit (it was my first time on that run, they do it all the time). I felt like this car handles better than my 01 auto vette did with base suspension. I honestly think that the bridgestones are much stickier than those emt eagle f1s. Anyway, my advice, keep vdc on. you don't wanna take chances in a canyon as our cars will loose traction pretty easily without it (i lost traction even with vdc on, in the rain).

have fun and stay safe.

I went once when she was stock and three times with springs, struts, sways, camber kits, rims and tires.

The first time with the stock 05 G 6MT, I was going fairly fast since I have pretty much memorized most of the canyons around the Bay Area because I road thru them on my bikes. I left the VDC ON because I fishtailed my old 04 350Z a few times with the VDC OFF and almost crapped my shorts! Now in the G, I just leave it on. It felt pretty good stock. I had no problems holding my lines. I never went over the double yellow. The only problem I noticed was with the left-right-left S type turns but the upgraded suspension eliminated that problem.

I want to say that I went thru the same canyon much FASTER with the upgraded suspension, wheels and tires. I didn't get a chance to time it or anything because sometimes you run into Sunday cruisers or slowpokes. Canyons are very inconsistent because of weather and road conditions. Sometimes there is gravel or chunks of mountain on the road. Sometimes there is water so you lose traction.

For being stock and the car being so heavy, I think the 05 Coupe 6MT stock "Sport Tuned Suspension" feels great overall.

Word. What's it like first thing in the morning? If there isn't too much moisture on the road, the best runs are at about 6am on a Sunday morning. Plenty of sunlight, and no traffic to worry about.
