Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

Just picked up a DG with graphite interior 6mt with all options except BSM and splash guards. Paid MSRP plus $289 dealer handling. I traded in a 350Z performance model. If anyone thinks the coupe's ride is stiff ride in a Z. The G35 is a much better ride. I don't know about performance yet since I only have 15 miles on it. I feel the performance is going to very close after breakin. I only began looking for a G 3 weeks ago and I got it today, in fact I saw it on the truck and followed the truck to the dealer. The car wasn't spoken for and I was able to get it. Now I will go to the Z board and let them know how I feel about the two cars.

IMO......... Z has slightly better handling, but G has better ride.... But, G seems more elegant, smoother lines that Z. Both good cars anywayz. Congrats

Better handling and slightly lighter and quicker. But seats not as comfortable as Coupe. Whole car seems a little more refined. Z winner at track, Coupe winner on street.JMHO

I personally wonder why people choose the Z over the G, the G is a much better value, IMO. The Z interior is very cheap looking, and has more than a few elements that feel very flimsy and easily breakable (especially the cover to the storage bay). Further The G has a longer warranty and the brembo brakes on every model, and it's only slightly more expensive.

Is there any actual advantage to the Z apart from slightly lighter and slightly more horespower (I assume that is primarily from a more aggressive exhaust). I can't imagine the performance difference to be substantial, since the cars are so similar to begin with.

After owning the Z and switching to the G35 Coupe I'll tell you there are no advantages to the Z. For anyone considering the Z be sure ro dive both. The G is a much superior car and a better value. It cost me $2500 to learn which car is better and it would be a shame for other people to make the same mistake.

Re: Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

my sister picked up a 350z. I didn't want to let her try driving my g35c so I didn't ask to drive her 350z . My dad was the lucky one that got to try both cars.

He verified that the 35c has softer suspension then the 350z. The shifting in the g35 was smother and easier, but that might have to do with my 400miles over the 350s 100 miles.

From just sitting in the 2 cars, I can tell the g35 is more comfortable and you feel snuggled in. the 350z was straight up a sports car, felt very empty inside to me.

I still love both cars, if I was still into the import scene I would definetly fix up a 350z, but I will enjoy fixing up the g35 just as much. Just that the g35c is going to be a sleeper, everything done under the hood and no fiber glass kits.

Re: Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

This guy I know drove his Z for 6 months and then went for the G Coupe (his wife drives a G Sedan). :P) 4 yr. warranty good.
but my A/T Coupe has no Brembos (All 6M/T Coupes have Brembos-not available yet with A/T)
Performance on the G isn't much diff. The quicker Z probably beats the G because of weight difference coupled with 7 H.P.
(If in fact there is 7 H.P. more). Once more and more G owners get theirs broken in and dyno'd, I think we'll see little variance between the 2.
To my mind Nissan was hoping to sell many new Z's to ex-240, 260, 280, and 300 owners and ppl that wanted one and never got one. Those guys have had to wait 6 yrs. for the Z's re-introduction. The Z fame and 'mystique' is very real.........
Z's nice, but G is better (IMHO). Good luck with yours, KingVitamin & welcome to G35 Driver

Re: Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

Didn't Car and Driver test both cars and find that the G35 was faster through the slalom and pulled more G's than the Z did? In which case you could make the argument that the G35 handles better than the 350Z. I've driven both and the G35 is a much nicer ride for the street, I'd have to track both to make up my mind there, supposedly the G35 is less twitchy which could result in faster lap times in the right hands.

yes kendude you are correct, the coupe had lower g's at a higher track speed than the 350Z, with g's, lower=better

Re: Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

Sorry but lower g's are not better unless you want a car that can't corner as hard. Think of g's as force. The better the car corners the more force it is able to create therefore you want a higher number in g's unless you want to go around that corner slower.

Re: Traded 350Z for G35 Coupe

I think what Rambo was trying to say was that at the same speed the G was pulling less g's than the Z, in a speed comparison, lower G's would be what you want. In a MAXIMUM GRIP comparison, you want higher G's, in other words a .95 would be better than a .88, etc.

A faster speed through the cones while experiencing lower G's would also be preferred for handling.
