Dealers are making a healthy profit
Dealers are making a healthy profit
I got one of those Consumer Reports car price reports and learned the dealer is making a very healthy profit. On my car, for example, $4,471. Here's the profit breakdown:
Base MSRP: $3,066
Holdback: $912
Premium: $311
Aero: $76
XM: $55
Splash Guards: $51
This adds up to a total of: $4,471
Don't you guys think this is too much money to give away, even for this hot car?

Supply and demand. As long as there are boneheads willing to pay MSRP, then the dealers will gladly take their money.
By the way, at this point in time, it's fairly easy to get a substantial discount off of MSRP, even for the 6 speed coupe.

I paid invoice for all of my options, and less than $750 over Invoice on the base car. They didn't take much from me...

Ford dealer makes $15,000 on every Navigator. They don't even give a loaner probably because they would need to drive the loaner all the time while their ford is in the shop.
Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
I personally am in the sedan- perfect for me right now. Nah, I paid $250 over invoice on mine, but it was an interesting situation-- it was the only one with everything I wanted available within the surrounding states, so they had to do a deal with St.Louis to get it. I got them to comp the transport fee, too, so technically I'd paid $250 under invoice.
My cousin got the "under $750" mentioned above at the same dealership on the coupe, but we ended up paying something like $650 over invoice on it. We also bought three cars within 3 months, so they were being somewhat kind to us. We didn't pay over invoice for any options, but gave them 650 over invoice for the car.

Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
Don't mean to hijack the thread bu when I bought my G the dealer charged me a $1000 bank fee and some other BS $500 fee. I was desperate for the ride so I was like "whatever". What was this?? I'm still dazed and confused about these fees.

You guys REALLY need to clarify if you are talking coupe or sedan. Most would assume you are talking coupe since this is the "Coupe General" forum.
If you are talking sedan, it is no biggie to get a discount. Dealers were quoting me $500 over invoice back in May over the phone....no negotiating at all on Sedans. However, after visiting 10 dealers in So Cal and getting no where on the Coupe, it was very clear that I would have to pay msrp to get the car I wanted. I even cancelled orders a couple times and the dealers would offer me no incentive whatsoever to purchase from them. Best offer I got was free lifetime oil changes. If you read the posts on this board, that was the experience most So Cal'ers had. A few got some discount.

Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
MSRP is what you'll find in SoCal. Nothing else. There is absolutely no chance you will get it below. The dealership I'm at wont even give it lower to thier own employees!! Its unbelievable how much demand there is for the G35 coupe in SoCal.
Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
same as up here in northern california.. most people are still paying MSRP, not because they're idiots, but it's cause that's what the price is.. but there are some dealers that are willing to budge, only wit the AT, though.. good luck just finding a 6MT..
like i've said before, it's all about location and demand in that area..

Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
Yeah, I dealed with 4 different dealerships in so cal and they weren't going to budge on lowering the MSRP. You take it or not.....and if you don't someone else will.
Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
You CA. guys need to move North East. Great deals on cars here! (Though I am in Ohio, not NE) If its MSRP or nothing order your car from another East dealer! Tell you dealers there that you can order back East. See if they won't give you a break then.
Re: Dealers are making a healthy profit
Another example of how we get screwed on everything in So. Calif. Highest prices on everyting. Thats one reason the Gov. is being recalled, but that's another story!
I bought my coupe in April and there were no deals - MSRP only. Dealers seemed to be getting a good supply of cars though; but they sold immediately. When I saw exactly what I wanted on the lot, I bought it, no wait.
Now the situation may be a little better. If you call all around the country, call Grubbs, or use a broker or buying service, you may be able to get a deal. If you are patient and find a hungry dealer, you will make a good deal!!!!
