Leave the chrome

Dont give up on the overlays, look around at all the peoples pics of installed overlays and they look great. This is really the first forum I've heard any complaints at all about them.

Looks great how it is. I've been thinking about doing this as well. You might have just convinced me. Does anyone know what it costs to get a replacement grill incase I don't like how it turns out?

Looks really clean the way it is. I am very inspired to do the same. Do you have any front angle pics that show the entire car?

+1 on more pics.

I love cheap mods.

What specific paint(s) did you use? Is is a paint/clear combo, or are they 2 products?

I did the same thing to my grille except I used a flat black, not a gloss. I left the Infiniti logo chrome.

Thumbs up

I think it looks BETTER than stock. You know, I've seen this before without really knowing it or atleast thinking that someone must have painted the grill black and left the Mt. Fugi symbol the normal chrome, b/c I thought the car looked great, but could not for the life of me figuer out why it looked different (and better) than mine. Now I do!

To me, having it black, just MATCHES the two "inlets" (which by the way, if I were you, (and I'm not), but if you take my advise and do this, it would be even better, Paint the two inlets the same black that you painted the grill. They'll match PERFECT then. Right now, I can see the two inlet's plastic "Mesh" black has faded a slight bit in comparison to the newly painted grill. Do that, and it will be Perfect man! I have an extra grill and now am going to take my old one and do the exact same thing bud!

Thanks for sharing! Post more pics when you can,

-WoW

It does look good. If you really want to do it right, take it to a body shop. They should have a special thick black semi-gloss paint for plastics that holds up to everything. When I had my bumper cover replaced (after an unfortunate off road excursion), the body shop's downdraft booth wasn't working properly and they got overspray in the black mesh inlets. I thought they'd have to replace the entire bumper cover, but they fixed it with this really cool plastic paint. It looks better than it did from the factory, and so far the stuff has proven to be indestructable.
