Deciding on G35 6MT or S2000?

Hello,
New to this forum.. actually saw a post of someone selling an s2k for a g35 coupe and the replies were all thoughtful, making me think maybe some of you can shed light on a similar problem for me. Im 48, and finally spending money on myself. Looking to buy my first new car (ever). Test drove both s2k and g35 6mt.. both were great.. the G felt confident at all speeds, more comfortable, luxurious, practical, etc.etc. (Im 6' and the s2k is just big enough) But the s2k has that convertible feature.. Really feel stuck on making the right decision.. Never owned a convertible, and the best handling car Ive ever owned is my current 1986 MR2. I know they are both great cars, but from those of you who know, is the convertible experience worth the sacrifice of space and practicality?

Would appreciate your thoughts, especially from those of you that have owned both cars. Thanks for your feedback, and if I choose the G I look forward to being a part of this great crowd.

As on the other thread, and every other "this car or that car" thread, you have to know what you want. The S2000 is more the weekend car and the G35 coupe is more the "can do anything fairly well, but nothing very well" car.

So if you're not that nuts on performance, I think you'll be happy with the G35. If you want near BMW levels of steering precision, perfect balance, and NSX level handling, you're going to want to go with the S2000. Typically, though... for older gents who want to indulge themselves, I would go with a 2 seater. Psychologically, it really gives you the feeling of "I'm a selfish bastard... but I earned it".

Normally, guys like you get the Vette. What gives?! (just kidding)

good luck on your decision.

If you want both "confident at speed" and convertible, get a 350z convertible. It's like a morph of the s2000 convertible feature and the G's handling and speed.

But the s2000's speed and handling are both > than the G.

So why would you want that.

Well, he was looking to make a choice between the G and the S2K, I was just trying to accomodate.

I'd rather have the convertible (either Z or S) but I needed a 4-seater so I went with the G.

I ALMOST got an S2000! It was the color combo I've always wanted, silver w/ two-tone black/red interior. And after test driving it, I was so sure I was gonna buy it. But, the salesman was an douchebag and played me around. While I was dealing w/ the salesman, it made me think deeper...did I really want a 2-seater convertible here in the Northeast when I know I'll prolly have the top down at the most 2months or so out of the year. Plus, it would've been my only car so lugging things around would be a b*tch. Although I cant really brag about the G's trunk size, it was adequate and, at worse, I would stuff things in the backseat. I still like the S2000, but only as a weekend car like what most have agreed on. Good luck!

depends on what your really looking for. Performance then go with the s2k, and if not then G. Simple as that. If you are going to mod then what will be your firsst priority? If its performance then go with the s2k, anything else = G

I have both.
I can tell you that I really enjoy driving the G every day...its comfortable, its quick and it handles well for being so hefty. Torque is much better for city driving

That being said...I get a HUGE grin on the warm weekends when I hop in the S2000, drop the top and take her out on the road and hit the 9k mark Then handling is awesome, the shifter is smooth and its plain made to drive fast I did use it as a daily driver for a year and I dont want to do that again.

So...you want a daily driver that has beautiful lines, great handling, good torque and plenty of room (without passengers in the back that is) then go with the G35.
If you want a fast, awesome handling, no room for anything but your gym bag, convertible...go for the s2k.

Either way...they are both beautiful cars...just roam in different circles .

I actually was looking to purchase either the s2k or the g. After driving both....the G just felt more luxurious, and had WAY more room. I'm 6'0 and the s2k just felt like a lil go cart when I test drove it. Yeah it's a convertible....but I would prefer the G. My brother was also debating on either the s2K or the 350Z. He was 90.00% sure that he was going to buy the s2K. But after test driving the 350z once.....he chose that.

Depends exactly on what you want. I looked into both cars before buying my G. The S2k is a sweet handling ride, but it is just way too small and impractical. The G on the other hand actually has some room to move in, has a back seat,( although nearly useless), and might not handle as well as the S2k, but certainly hols its own. I bought the G, and a friend bought the S2k, and we are both happy with our choices. You cant go wrong.
