Deciding on G35 6MT or S2000?
I've never liked convertibles, so a hardtop would be my first purchase with an S2000. But, for me, the S2000's appeal has always been about that high-revving engine. It's close enough to a street bike's song that it captivates me.
With that said, this video makes a strong case (for me) as a great 2nd mod (skip past first 30 seconds):
S2000 with Individual Throttle Bodies
If only I didn't need a backseat.

I had a black s2k for 6 months. Love the care during good weather. There is nothing better than driving with the top down with the sound of that beautiful V-tech engine howling @ high rpms, but I hated being in that car when it was raining and the top up. That V-tech sound just starts to grate on you during long enclosed drives. I guess getting older you want a little comfort yet be able to blow the doors off some punk with a coffee can as an exhaust from time to time.
Both cars are definite lookers but I noticed one thing. The G tends to project quality of life and zest for it. If you are young the s2k says that, if you are older it says "trying hard" IMHO.
There is a similar thread open right now about a guy trying to sell his s2k to get a G. You might want to read that one too.

Both cars have it's pros and cons. 2 of my friends, own s2ks so I can see why they like it. If you are going to pick up a s2k, I'd strongly recommend getting one used. Since it's a Honda, the prices drop significantly. Both my friends got them used and paid only around 20k for a almost new car. They spent the money they saved on a few extra parts.
S2ks are not much faster then our cars, except when there's a turn. However, I do believe s2ks are a lot more "fun" to drive. They are a true "sports" car, and traction control wasn't even able till '06. They are going to discontinue the s2k soon.
But, if you want a car that is the best of both worlds, and does a good job in offering decent speed with decent luxury, then hands down goes to the g35. Definately more practical, and has other benefits.
So you have to ask yourself, a little more Vroom or a little more room? I agree that the 350z roadster is a good alternative.

s2k is a tad faster than our car in the 1/4 mile, but requires a high rpm clutch drop... which is exceedingly hard to pull off... not to mention bad for the clutch and tranny...
I wouldnt consider it to be faster than the G... especially off the roll, and even if the s2k does manage to do a perfect launch... G will still eventually catch up and reel it in...
of course s2k eats G for breakfast in the turns.
Id still say Elise, which is faster than the s2k in the straightline and in the turns. Those things are in the realm of vetts, evos, M3s in terms of accleration.

i swapped cars with my friends s2000 for a couple of weeks. the first week it was fun, but really, the functionality of the s2000 is not really there. no trunk space (i need room for work equipment), the convertible top was too loud when shut, but on the other hand, it was a pretty damn fun car to drive compared to my g coupe.

i hope you don't buy the G or the S2k because of it's huge trunk
my vote goes to the G35 b/c i love teh VQ engien for the torque adn the honda you need to be in the high rpm's just to get somewhere
elise is a great car, but i think the thrill you get is similar to s2000. but s2000 is a honda built in japan! = the maintenance cost is very low, and it is built solid. how much is it going to cost you to get services done on lotus? i dont even wanna know.
s2000 does not feel like a car. its more like a motorcycle feel. its very nimble and super balanced. i find it kinda scary to take the s2000 to the limit when turning very hard. riding at VERY high speed did not feel as secure as g35c at same speed, IMO.
g35c is very fun at different level. its more about grip and torque... but i feel the car is little too heavy. (sometimes frustratingly overweight.) 350z is nicer in performance, but too many little kids drive em around, and really dont feel special anymore. z's interior quality is terrible compared to s2000.
get g35c if you want a near-porsche feel w/ luxury & practicality
get s2000 if you want a 4-wheeled bike w/ great reliability
** for both cars, the stereo is rubbish... **
...and... why would anyone buy 350z convertible instead of s2000? really doesnt make any sense to me...

So why would you want that.

You must like tight fits, im 6'4" and theres no way I could fit in the S2000, I could'nt even get my foot over the clutch due to the lack of leg room.... I would test drive the 350z Roadster before buying the S2000.... It's rather nice to have some room, especially if you get in a accident
