I joined the G35 coupe family on friday

I picked up a 2006 6MT with every option.

I have only put 120 miles on it as I am so busy with work I can’t get to drive it yet. My impressions are it was the right choice for me. I am 22 have owned an 1998.5 Audi A4 5spd 1.8T Quattro the last 5 years that was heavily modded and did great but hit 100k. Things were going to need to be done so I traded it in and picked this ride up. I love everything about it pretty much. Only issues I have are: the nav is a pain to input things into. I am pretty technically inclined and I just think it should be easier/faster. The other is the clutch which I attribute to me being used to a worn down one instead of strong grabbing new clutch. Sadly I stalled for the first time in two years yesterday with my buddy in the car.

I think I am done with my modding bug but just in case what are some performance mods to consider? I do not want anything for appearance and I like the 19's. Thinking along the lines of an exhaust, intake, etc that aren’t too intensive but add a bit of power. Are there any parts like what NISMO offers for the Z that won’t void a warranty? K I will be lurking a bit and reading up and trying to learn, I have been with Audi's so long it seems strange to have to learn the ins and outs of a new vehicle.

Any info or advice you guys want to share I will be glad to hear.

welcome to the club. for the g, most people will say speed gains on intake is minimal, only for sound. exhaust wise, a lot of choice u have, such as the HKS True Dual Ti exhaust.

best bang for the buck, everyone will tell u to get the Mrev, just search it.

welcome to the forum!

this car is great with simple bolt-on mods. plenum spacer gets good reviews for its decent gains, and getting aftermarket intake isnt bad either. good stock sounds, and the sound gets better and better with little mods here and there. mod bug is a disease.

thanks guys, I have been busy with the search function what little time I can log on here. The HKS exhaust sounds like something I would consider.

KevJB,

Congrats on what has to be a sweet new ride and welcome to the boards. A good starting place for modding your new G without going overboard might be . . . Z tube with either a K&N or Amsoil drop-in filter, Motordyne's MREV kit, the HKS Hi-Power Ti or Stillen exhaust. Enjoy you G and "Happy Modding" . . . Just in case.

It says

on the nav 16.9mpg. I am expecting 300-350 miles on my first tank as I wont go over 4k at all and shift pretty early on. Does it getter better after break in or is the mileage pretty low in general?

If you redline often you get more like 13mpg. I was kind of rough on the car in the break-in period, but then again I'm leasing. I went about 5k at the most at first. With about 9.5k and a year and five days on the car I get close to redlining it about twice a day, but from what everyone says on here it can take some abuse. Just make sure you change your oil often, especially w/ no miles. The clutch grabs pretty well at a certain point, which is somewhat obvious after a couple of drives. I've only stalled once and that was on the way home from the dealership after driving an auto 328 for about 3-4 years and because I couldn't hear the engine when I got off the xpressway. It drives a little bit different than a european car, but is a lot of fun.

Research what everyone tells you to buy, b/c a lot of people on here will tell you half their bolt-ons don't do a whole lot but add sound. Maybe see what the guys that run tracks recommend. There are quite a few member videos on here.
