the car looks so awesome tho..love the rumble. at low rpm it sounds lik a beast snoring and makes u scared of waking it up.
im a new manual driver so im having a lot of trouble wit hte clutch. its really heavy compared to my friends Honda. ne one got tips ?

Re: Got my G yesterday
Congrats, you are really going to enjoy the car. The stock exhaust system really does sound so great. I hate to say it, but yes, this car is pretty difficult to drive if you are a new manual transmission driver, but you will get used to it (and quickly, hopefully). The gearbox is an absolute dream and the clutch is very precise, it just takes a bit of muscle to engage and dis-engage the clutch. I think after a bit of driving, you will just get used to the amount of power required to use the clutch. I came a from a Jetta 2.0 5-speed which had a very light clutch, so while I was waiting for my car to come in, I was very nervous that I wouldn't be able to handle it as my daily driver. But after about a day (I guess???) of driving, I got very much used to it...just find a comfortable seating position that makes clutch-work optimally comfortable for you, and you should be fine. Oh yeah, and at the traffic lights, sit in neutral. =)

heh good luck, i have 6,000 miles on my coupe and i am still learning I am doing great though, but i seem to be having a problem adjusting the shifting technique with AC on and off. The revs drop MUCH faster with the AC on.

Re: Got my G yesterday
I have noticed that the main trick to smooth shifting up-shifting with this car is to always give it gas while engaging the clutch after you have shifted as the revs drop very quickly. As for downshifting, you just have to get used to how hard you have to blip the throttle...it's just a matter of getting used to the way the engine works.

MrElussive, i have noticed the SAME THING. Last night i viewed those M5 driving school videos, so i tried to emulate those today, Failed big time, i just have to give it some gas to smooth things out. This will definitely set me back $600 every year or two. (new clutch)

Re: Got my G yesterday
Rambo, do you mean giving the car gas while changing gears is going to set you back that $$$? Because usually you don't have to change the clutch for a long long long time (with or without applying gas when changing gears).

umm...applying the gas with the clutch not fully engaged will heat up the clutch somewhat... but it all depends on what RPM i guess, if you're barely applying the gas then it wont heat up much. I am not an expert in regards to clutch wear though, because this is my first MT car
Just gonna budget myself thats all, hehe
i've been told that sound is everything, if the shift sounded smooth then you did not eat up any clutch.
Another problem i have is revving the engine to 900- 1,000rpm, the throttle is very light on this car and easy to plow down!

Re: Got my G yesterday
You mean, you only rev up to 1,000rpm to start? Because when I start from a stop, I rev to about 2,000 to start. And usually you should replace the clutch at like 50,000 miles, no matter how hard you drive it. Applying some gas when you wanna upshift is fine...that's the way you drive manual transmission. It doesn't really cause any harm or anything, and the clutch will still last mad long.

At 3K miles mine's beginning to get smoother but I've found the same thing. I like to start up quite gently most of the time, and use minimal RPMs to get the car rolling. The clutch seems to have a very narrow grab-point, and you need to go through it very delicately if you're going to start rolling using under 1K RPMs. It's all about passing through that point just right, or you will dump the engine, as I have many times, to my great embarrassment (I've been driving stick almost exclusively for 35 years). So it's not really the throttle that's the culprit, it's the clutch's very narrow "window" between no-grab and grab, probably only a half inch of travel or so, about 3/4 of the way up from the floor..
As I said, at about 3300 miles now it's getting smoother, which is nice. Otherwise, revving to 1200-1500 RPMs with a reasonably gentle release will be pretty much a sure thing.

Re: Got my G yesterday
i drove home today and only stalled it twice :-D yippieee. i have figured to rev it to about 1.5-2k and then release the clutch slowly till u feel the car start to pull. then just slowly let it go and slowly push on the gas.. got it pretty smooth sometimes.. but from 1st to 2nd it gets jumpy.. i dont kno if im leting go too fast or too slow and the rpms drop.. wat u guys think?
