i am a bit curious too, why is that? one would assume that thte coupe is a tad bit shorter than the sedan and should weight little bit less.
inquiring mind want to know.

you see on a four door sedan there is a peice of frame where the 2 back doors are attached too, and the coupe doesn't have that, so they reinforce the coupe so it could save you from accidents, which equals more weight

Re: Why are the coupes heavier then the sedan?
I'm not smoking anything, i know for a fact that the coupe weighs more than the sedan version most of the time cause they have to reinforce it more, but i think the new G35 sedan mt weights like 3526
Re: Why are the coupes heavier then the sedan?
Here are some real world numbers for you guys.
I did a search on the Car and Driver website, and here's some curb weights for the sedan and coupe. Keep in mind that Car and driver actually puts their test cars on a scale to get the curb weights.
6 speed manual G35 Sedan curb weight- 3526 lbs.
6 speed manual G35 Coupe curb weight- 3500 lbs.

RKG,
You know for a fact? Explain your facts then. Everything I've ever learned over the years says that a coupe design (with only 2 doors) is inherently more rigid/stiff structure than the open design of a 4 door.
I still think you're high.....

Re: Why are the coupes heavier then the sedan?
yes we know all about those articles, the sedan mt that weighed 3526 ran 5.9 0-60 and 14.2 1/4 mile time, while the coupe ran 5.5 0-60 and 14.2 1/4 mile time. Personally i think the coupe is good for 14 flat since it weighs less and has 20 more hp
Re: Why are the coupes heavier then the sedan?
So now you think the coupe weighs less than the sedan? Make up your mind already.......
BTW, I'll believe the weights published by Car and Driver over most other sources, simply because they clearly state that they put the cars on a scale and weigh them. Edmunds just uses quoted figures.
In the real world, the difference in weight betweent the coupe and the sedan probably depends on the options of the vehicles. They're so close in weight, even the amount of gas in the tank might make enough of a difference to determine which one is heavier. BTW, Car and Driver weighs each car with a full tank of gas to avoid this problem.

Re: Why are the coupes heavier then the sedan?
Argh.. "Dry Weight"..
I know I hate it when motorcycle manufacturers do this - they quote dry weight, which is no gas, gear oil, fork oil, etc. Well, that's fine, but the bike has to have all those things to run, so fill it up and quote serviceable weights, like those in C&D.
This is like quoting crankshaft HP numbers - what do you get at the rear wheels? I'm not buying an engine, I'm buying an integrated transportation system and I'd like to know what the output of that system is, at the point of delivery.
Sounds picky, but it would eliminate alot of guesswork (and encourage development of better powertrains).
