Gas gauge read incorrectly?

Hey guys, I picked up an 03 G35 coupe. I filled it up today and noticed the gas gauge only went to 3/4ths. Anyone seen this before? Should I take it in to the dealer to have them look at it? The navi-computer said I had 105 miles left on the tank of gas when the gauge was pegged at "E". I filled it up with only 11 gallons.

BTW, pics of the car are at: http://www.webpimp.net/g35

you need to go get your filler pump replaced by the dealer under the recall. It appearantly is a different part. The current one 03-04 and up? Has faulty pump that creates air pockets when filling up. I can never fill it up to the top since I first bought the car.

Thanks! I'll get that taken care of ASAP. While in there, I'll also have the dealer look at the tachometer. It seems slow to respond to revs and sometimes sticks at 0. Any known causes with that?

My gas gauge totally SUCKS. Its completely random. Sometimes I get 200 miles at half a tank and other times only 120 miles. Funny thing is I consistantly average 21mpg on the nav and always put 15 gallons in when empty so there shouldn't be any fluctuation. Its been to the dealer twice already. The first time was for the venting situation and the second time they replaced the fuel pump. That solved the problem with being able to fill the tank all the way, but what good is it if you only drive 250 miles and your low fuel light goes on. I have driven it to 330 miles with the gas gauge way below empty and the nav saying I have ** miles to go (since it wont display 0) and It still only took 16 gallons to fill it to the top. I thought our tanks were 20 gallons. If I average 21mpg that means the low fuel light comes on when I use only about 12-13 gallons. What happened to the rest???

Yea I have an 03 coupe and my gas light comes on after driving 275 miles or so (mostly city). Usually I can drive around for another 2 days before filling up and I'll only get about 17-18 gallons. I know some of the early models have problems filling up completely, but mine never had any.

The problem is the gauge is NOT LINEAR. It responds to your current driving style. It is more like a predicting gauge. As in if you keep driving like you drive, you will have this much left. I noticed the gauge going back up once you start driving slowly from speeding around.

Thats rediculous. I want to know how much gas is in the tank, not how much it anticipates will be in the tank. After all the nav is supposed to estimate how many miles I have left to drive not my gas gauge.
