Question for the ladies

How do I convince my wife to let me mod my car? I have this never ending urge to upgrade my car, but she gets mad whenever I mention it. She thinks buying a house is more important, i only half agree. After all, houses have garages and thats what my car deserves. Any help is greatly appreciated.

give her a nice vacation and in return you get Mod money. my wife wanted to go to france and I told her fine but I get to buy my wheels/body kit... learn to bribe

If she get to buy clothes, shoes, house crap then you should also get to buy stuff for your self.

hahaha, I stop buying clothes for myself just to spend it for my car or on your anniversary, your birthday, Christmas you should be entitle to buy what you want.

What I do and did

Before I married my wife, I modded everything but the engine. There was really nothing she could say. Next, after she and I married, I told her if I can pay the bills and support us with out any question, there should not be a problem. Thus, two months after she and I married I bought a SC for my ride. As long as you can prove to her there will be no problems with money and that trip that was mentioned earlier can happen, I would say you can do whatever you want. Or, you can buy a house and with buying a house you may be able to have equity in it. If so, you can get a Home equity line of credit and do everything you want and really not be out of pocket, just a little more in debt. Just a thought.

You gotta start laying better pipe! JK JK

Well to be honest, I agree that buying a house is more important. In the long run you will be kicking urself in the **** after you see how much money in mod you will eventually end up spending. You may say oh just this cheap thing and that and I'm done, but that is never the case. At the end, you will never recoup most of that mod money. Now if you put it into a house, I can almost guarantee that the money you put into a house you will get back, if not even more!

The smart move is to save for a house (Both financially and mentally as your wife will haunt you!)

Then you have my philosophy where a guy needs to have his fun and hell, MODS are cheaper then a shrink......Most of the time!!

I am basically in the same position minus the wifey....trying to buy a house soon and have cut back on the mods a bit.

Maybe try a compromise with your wife so you can get "x" percentage of savings contributions or if you have side money coming in...yadda yadda.....try to compromise and convince her that although you both want a house for your future, you still BOTH need something for your sanity and happiness today! Maybe she gets her nails done or something every week or 2 and you take that same amount and put it towards a mod fund?

House is more important... I would have already gone FI if I wasn't planning on buying a home or at least buying land / building a custom home for myself within the next 6 months to a year... so I think your wife is the victor in that argument...

I have pretty much tried all angles. And I guess that a house is more important and I understand that we should be saving for one. But honestly, we both work and have good jobs and money is not much of a concern. But until we get this house, I doubt I will be able to do anything, big or small. Its just driving me crazy. I guess its better my wife would rather save our money than spend all of it.

life is too short. i'd say if it makes you happy, mod comfortably within your budget. yes i know real estate is an appreciating asset but you know we should spend our hard earned money on things we need first, then wants later.

Consider youself lucky in that she let you buy this car already (or not make you sell it). She's right though, save for the house, then get the toys. When that happens, you'll probably wind up modding the house instead! Houses appreciate in value, cars don't.

Get the house first... You will always have time to mod... If you wait to long on the house decision though... A house you can buy for 400K today will cost ya 475K in like 6 months... You can buy a GTR in 2009 for 75K man...

Priorities bro, Priorities...

We are going to get a house regardless of whether I mod or not. She just wants to save every penny towards the house, where I want to save most and still play with a bit. Thats why its frustrating to me, I know we will be fine either way. She only see's it her way.
