funky smell

Hey all,

I got a question. my G is still relatively new, about 120 miles on it. My question is when i'm done driving her, there is a slight smell of oil or rubber buring. I'm thinking that because the car and its parts are brand spanking new, and it will go away after a awhile. What do you guys think?

love my damn car!!

Re: funky smell

it's your upper lip....hahahahah....just kidding...

sounds like you either are burning the clutch like he said, or you are riding the brakes too much....

Re: funky smell

All new cars have that smell. Its some kind of protectant on the engine parts or something. Burns off around/shortly after break in.

Re: funky smell

I kinda agree with tmoney in last post. I smelled something strange on my first ride-- it was interfering with my fabulous leather/new car smell -LOL! I do think it's something that burns off the engine. I don't think it takes very long to go away.

Re: funky smell

It could be the exhaust breaking in. I have smelled that before when changing to a new exhaust on my other car. I also smelled the same smell when after every drive in my G until around 200 miles or so.

Re: funky smell

its just new parts on the car breaking in. it happened to me too. the smell is still there at times.... but mostly its gone. its more like a plastic burning smell, since the engine is breaking in... too much heat and its just seals and the rest of the parts... are fitting in.

Re: funky smell

its the sulfur based coating on the under-parts of the car, mainly the exhaust....its there for protection for shipping.
Burns off in a few hundred miles, dont worry

Re: funky smell

Yup. Exhaust coating. And it's the same for automatic tranny's too. Though, it does smell kind of like a burnt clutch. I suppose in your case, if it's really strong, it could be both.
