I was leaving work late tonight, when me and my co-worker with his fox body stang decided to get it on. At a freeway entrance we both lined up and i gave 3 honks. I spun my tires all the way through first, and around redline right when i think i was putting the clutch in to hit second, a loud pop came from my rear end. It startled me, but i said screw it and continued with the race.

We pulled over and my buddy said it was loud as hell. Needless to say my G drove home fine.

Anyone have any idea what the pop was? I know it wasnt wheel hop, it was very loud.

 

backfire maybe? I dont know.

Whats this about breaking in the new VQ??? On an 03??? You break the first one in a little too well?

I had a similiar situation. But I was in a parking lot, going less than 5 mph. And heard the same noise. I thought maybe I ran something over. But I checked, and nothing. There's a thread talking about a loud noise/sound after shifting into 2nd.

 

it must have been a backfire, considering i am running test pipes and an injen exhaust, it seem very possible. I could have sworn it was mechanical tho...
