Need Some Advice...dealer Issue

I took my car in last Wednesday for several warranty issues(window switch, driver seat rails, seatbelt won't retract, fuel tank won't fill and reporting incorrect fuel) and to also have my front brake pads replaced(Brembos). When I dropped off my vehicle, I told the Service Mgr. that if I needed new rotors, do not replace the pads as I would simply upgrade to an aftermarket drilled and slotted rotor, and he noted this on my vehicle check-in paperwork. They called me today to inform me that my car would be ready in the morning and detailed the list of work done which included replacing my front pads and rotors. I specifically told them that I did not want to replace with the factory rotor and the same Tech that checked me in, pulled my paperwork to see the notation. Anyone ever had something similiar to occur? What is your opinion on resolution? Right now, I have not intent on paying for something documented that I did not want done. Sorry for the long thread!

If the work orders specifically states do not replace the pads, it's not your fault that the tech performed those services. Definitely refuse to pay because the dealer can't make you pay for it. What he will do is discount the pads. Just play with them because the ball's in your court

Depending on what state you live in, this could get ugly. Here in Texas, it doesn't mater what the mech does to your car, if you want it back, you have to pay and then fight it out in court.

I see what you're saying texasscout. I think any shop will have the right to keep the car unless you pay. It is a matter of disputing the service requested and delivered.

From my limited knowledge -

- you definetely don't have to pay for something you don't want or never requested.
- You should refuse to pay, but then your choices may end up being, take the extra time for the dealer to take it off again and replace it with the old, or risk them not releasing the car to you when you want. It seems like its a pretty clear case, just make sure you keep evidence of your specific request for the work not to be done. Then they have no basis for holding your car.
- Last option would be to hold off on the aftermarkets and play with the dealer... you may end up getting a damn cheap brake service. Cuz at this point, i would think the service department will want to minimize losses rather than look at revenue gains.

I have had brake shops put everything back during an estimate or work due to problems with service or pricing, and they never run as well as it went in, for some reason, they end up much worse than if you did nothing to the brakes. I would expect that there would be no degradation to the parts or performance of those parts.

My request to not do the brake job if rotors were required was clearly documented by the service tech on the check in paperwork. He read it to me today over the phone, followed by a LOOOOOOONG pause. I guess I'll find out in the morning.

Any Carolina 'G' owners have any experience with Lake Norman Infiniti? I was told they were better than the horrible service I received at Infiniti of Charlotte.

I heard back from the service mgr and they removed the new rotors and just turned my old ones... surprise, surprise! They said Infiniti recommends changing pads and rotors at the same time, but my rotors were perfectly fine w/being turned.

Thw law varies by state. When I lived in Michigan, a dealer once performed service I hadn't authorized. Michigan law requires (or did at that time) that the dealer provide a written estimate of repairs and the customer must sign to authorize any repairs not in the estimate. When I questioned the charge, the dealer tried to get me to pay, but removed it from the bill when I refused. I never used that dealer again.
