06 MT - engine "blips" by itself? Tack hovers when you punch it?
OK im coming from a 99 MT accord that i drove for 5 years so im not exactly inexperienced. Here is what im seeing: If I accelerate through the gears every time i shift gears i see the RPMS basically hover or blip as i gear up. Its kinda hard to explain the behavior. At first glance you would think im maybe not letting of the gas completely before i hit the clutch but i dont think this is the case. I can hold the clutch in and punch the gas and the tack screams upward to say 6k and noticably hovers there for a moment before it comes back down... its like u punch it and it starts rising and u left off the gas quickly and it still continues on the rise until a certain point before dropping back down to idle speed... anyone else notice this? Is this normal? Never had this "behavior" in other manual ive driven. Oddly enough i hadnt though much of it until a co worker who bought a Mustang GT asked me about a similar behavior on his car... any info would be great!
for a sec there, i thought you were saying that it blips on downshifts - which would be awesome!! my bmw smg let me do that and it helps a TON in aggressive driving...
but you're talking about upshifts - and this is normal, 'normal' meaning that my car does it too (and a few of my previous cars). it's just for a split second right? i noticed it a long time ago in one of my cars, realized that all cars did that, and never thought about it again till you brought it up.

hmm wierd though right? When accelerating if you dont shift quick enough you will find that the rpms might increase if not stay the same..which means when you do shift up you will get that jerk since the engine speed is much faster then i guess the flywheel... just doesnt seem right... if i wait a sec between shifts and actually let it start to drop..nice clean slow controlled consistent shifts... it shifts smoothly
I believe it's the drive-by wire. Someone once told me it might be for emissions. Or to accomodate really slow shifters. I find it annoying - you have to wait longer to make a smooth shift. On the other hand, I'm coming from a car that had a 10 lb flywheel, lol.
My 2000 Golf 1.8T (drive by wire) did the same thing.
My 1998 M3 (cable throttle) did not.
My G35 does.
