Thanks for the great review, I too have been here since the beginning and remember seeing your post when you purchased the 03 car. Good luck with 06!

Daaaaaang, I'm half sold already, stop it! Now I won't stop thinking about it until I find out what kind of deal I can get... I've been waiting for someone with an 03 to get an 06 and tell us how it is. Thanks for the review, it looks sweeeeet and I'm totally jealous. The salesman hit me up today while I was in there for service and mentioned they had good deals on 06 leases right now, must be the time of year or ???. His number was vague and higher than the deal you ended up with. Plus you got to bail on your lease early that's great. Congrats!

Hey heads up to all, don't fall for the "we really need your style/make/year of car" for trade in! It's BS I get the same speal (usually letter in the mail) for all my cars, it's a gimmick they use to get you to come in. I keep getting one for my 94 chevy pickup which the local chevy dealership desperately needs for their inventory, but I'm holding out

I also just wanted to wish you a "welcome back!" Your '06 is a very nice looking ride. I will soon be in a situation similar to yours around November. My residual is $17.5, but I could sell the G private party and probably get $27K for my '03. Keep, or unload?

-As the car is easier to drive and more comfortable, even though it is faster in a straight line and through curves, you lose a bit of driving feel. I haven't pushed it too hard yet, but I detect less of a push-you-back-in-your-seat feel.

-I can feel less torque down low, noticeably right from 800rpm - 2,500. Used to be able to start on hills at 800-1K, now I need like 1,200? Even flat starts it seems like the car appreciates 1K where I used to be able to start at 800 without a problem. Engine is less willing to move the car if you are driving on a hill in 2nd or 3rd below 2K rpm and you want to accelerate.
Wouldn't this be as simple as the difference in 3 years? Our '03's have 280/270 versus the newer 298/260. The horsepower increased, but the torque dropped. Is this what you are noticing in the above statement? Nonetheless, welcome back. If you hang around long enough you'll recognize some old, familiar names. The mileage pic is old. I actually have 26.7K currently, which is still very low.

where in the heck could you find someone to buy a 03 with some miles on it AT at that. for 27k? you can buy a 05 new for invoice at like 32-33K

youre probably lookin to get like 24K

i ended up selling my g35 a few months after i got it.. i might get one later. but 06 corvette for me in 2 weeks!

on top of that .. youre paying 550$ a month for leasing.. which isnt halfbad from a financial standpoint. what is the buyout.. otherwise wouldnt it be better to just finance it and actually end up keeping the car at the end?

Great post Elusive! Very insightful on the comparisons.

After reading your post, I now regret picking up a "gently" used '04 and not biting the bullet and going new.

I bought a gently used '04 and actually still don't regret it. He's write up is great on an '06. When I was buying my '04 the '05 just came out, and the upgrades were not significant, considering loss of torque and a loss of brembos. The '06 does have many positive attributes and significant upgrades that I would go for, but the switch would not apply to me anyway, cause I own my car, and even if I were to do it, I would wanna do it for the '07 which should be considerably hotter. Good thread people.

Well, the KBB is a pretty reputable source, and I think that their calculations are fair. Their numbers go against your opinion;

Trade-in Value.....Condition Value; Excellent $25,500

Private Party.......Condition Value; Excellent $28,360

Suggested Retail...Condition Value; Excellent $31,425

With my payoff at $17.5, I can easily put 10K in my pocket and walk off into the sunset...................if I wanted to.

^ Hate to say it, but $26,xxx-$28,xxx is dealer retail for an 03 with <30k miles, depending on color, options, mileage and zip code. Since your car has no 18", Brembos, Aero or Navi, you're looking at the lower end of this range, and that's dealer retail, not private party. A more accurate source to check would be Edmunds TMV. Private party would be around $25k depending on your local market...

The 335i Coupe is pretty nice but the styling is just not aggressive enough. I probably would have gone with a Z4 3.0i 6-speed because I've been wanting a convertible or roadster for sooo long. I guess that will have to wait at least another 3 years.
