Unhappy Very ****ty gas mileage. help!

Hello everyone,

I am the proud owner of an 04 G35C 6MT. Car is amazing and love driving it every minute. But I am having issues with gas mileage. I am only getting 240 miles to a full tank! I mainly drive it 70% easy, and 30% spirited. I have searched this site and found little as to what to check to improve gas mileage. The car has 40,000 miles and I always put 93 octane in it. Also, it is completely stock, no mods have been done to it. Any idea what I can check to try and improve gas mileage. Worse thing is that there is no local Infiniti dealership around here, and the Nissan dealerships wont touch it...

Please help!

Thanks,

--Redz

LOL, I know what you mean. I have an '06 MT and it only gets around 19mpg. Maybe if it wasn't so damn fun to drive the wheels off these things we'd see better mileage. Considering how I drive that probably ain't too bad.

How many gallons is the car taking when you fill up? I know lots of the earlier models had issues with filling with gas, mine included. Make sure it is filling up completely. If it is, then you may have a leak and need someone to look into it.

Sadly, there's really nothing you can do short of driving like a grandma. I get 240 miles out of a tank when the gas light comes on. End up filling it around 15-16 gallons. My worst gas mileage ever was 14.5mpg. I average around 15.8 with 60% city and 40%highway and i'm pretty "spirited" when i drive.

I have the same year/model vehicle and my gas milealge was the same as yours well. After I upgraded to 20 in wheels, my milage dropped to 200-220 per tank. As to improve your mileage I can't help you there.

I think you just need to change the way you drive. I'm a leadfoot and still get ~20mpg. I see you have a 6mt, you should try to get into 6th as soon as possible.

i drive 65% highway-35% city and 75% easy and 25% spirited.

If you're worrying about mpg usage, calculate it first before being concerned. How many miles you getting out of a tank depends on too many variables, such as was the tank really full when you started counting, is your tank really empty when you got to 240 miles?? Come on man, I assume you're a bright guy, by buying a hot car like that, I'm sure you can fill up the tank, start counting miles, and devide the amount of gas to refill the tank again by the #of miles driven since last refill. And even that number will only give you an estimate.
I have '04 6mt, and I average around 19. I did happen to get almost 25mpg on a long all highway trip.
If you want to save on gas, make sure your car is tuned up to tip top shape, all maintenance done, make sure you don't have anything too heavy in the car, and keep the rpms as low as possible, by changing gears early and not pushing on the gas. This should give you the best possible gas mileage.
Have fun and good luck.

My last full tank got me just over 300 miles. That is mostly city miles and taking the rpm's to 3 or 4.
