I prefer driving the AT in manumatic (my wife uses the car too, and won't let me buy MT due to the fact she doesn't want to learn).

Anyway, I like to drive in manumatic, but was wondering if i like downshifting instead of braking does the tranny wear out badly or has anyone had problems with this?

over time i think it will wear out your tranny... and put stress on the motor.. brakes are there for a reason.. ya i know brake dust sucks (i have a 04 5AT coupe... the worst dust ever)... but try do it as lil as possible

I try not to do it unless I want to open it up
It's cheaper to replace pads than if you have a tranny or engine problem.

 

That should be ok engine braking should not pose any tranny problem. People that drive with a MT not just the G but MT cars do it all the time and I don't see any problem. It should be able to take the stress of daily driving including engine braking. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just my .02 cents.

Just my .02, auto's have clutch disks or bands and they wear out just like our manuals. I know it sounds cool, but i would'nt do it every time. Brake pads are alot cheaper than a tranny rebuild.

I hit 20K miles today and have only been in 5th gear(auto stick) for perhaps 25 of those miles. I hit the rev limiter on a regular basis and i do 5 or 6 180's per week. I have a Pro 1 exhaust with no silencers and drive around in 2nd gear at 6000 next to those moron women yappin on cel phones with no clue. This car is bullet proof so far. I just drive it on days off(no rain, no snow) and enjoy the fun and abuse more cause I leased it.

 

what about when u downshift to speed up? do u need to release the gas? i always do.

 

No it will downshift fine without you releasing the gas. It's supposed to be able to do that. When you floor the pedal not in manual mode it will downshift and well, you have your foot on the gas. No difference. It's made to take that.
