G35 Bumper Touch-Up

I recently had some damage to my 2006 G35 6MT Black rear bumper. The bumper was not damaged; but I had some significant scratches and an area about 2" square where the paint was completely removed down to the plastic. Either another car just barely caught the corner or a biker caught it with their pedal. Anywho, the car only had 5K miles on it and I knew from the moment I saw it that I was going to get it re-painted. I got 3 estimates from body shops and they were in the 400 to 500 price range with each shop claiming they needed to remove the bumper and completely repaint the whole bumper. A friend suggested that I talk to a local detail shop about having a touch up job done. I went to a professional detail shop and they gave me an estimate of $200 to touch up the bumper. They guaranteed that I would not be able to tell the difference. They said they would sand down the area and mask off part of the bumper and their painter would prime, paint and re-apply clear coat such that it would blend into the rest of the bumper. I had the work done and was very pleased with the results. Just thought I would offer up my experience in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation.

Detail Shop Touch Up Paint

I can't speak for detail shops as a whole, but the owner of the one I used said this was something that they did on a regular basis. The shop I used was First Impression Auto Care in Charlotte, NC. I think the types of clients that bring their vehicles to detail shops are expecting a level of service above and beyond what your typical car wash places offer. The owner told me that they regularly touch up stone chips and buff out superficial scratches.
