Does this make anyone else nuts? If the yellow pollen coating isn't enough,
a few days after washing there's an enormous amount of blackish grit on my rear bumper.
It actually swirls a bit on each side. Swirled ice cream is fine. Swirly rear grit is not.

Is this because of the spoiler or my tires? Will new exhaust fix it?
(Note the thinly veiled excuse for mods. )
Will a car duster pick up the grit or just scratch the paint?

No but I think a supercharger would help get rid of the dust

 

OMG...a few weeks ago I went to wash my car and the entire car was covered in black tar specs. It was like somebody power washed my car with tar. I spent 2 hours pre-washing the car with bug and tar remover before even getting to the washing part. I still think the rear feels like sandpaper, but I never got around to finishing the scrubbing back there. Now this green/yellow pollen is driving me nuts.

 

It was pretty bad without a spoiler. I helped justify the Data Systems spoiler by thinking it would decrease the dust a bit. It does... ...a bit. Spoiler looks great though.

Invest in some clay ... clay bar that tar otherwise it will eat through your clearcoat. After claying, slap on some wax. The wax will protect the paint and then make subsequent tar easier to remove. (My $0.02 ...)

Grace ... I would use water to remove the soot off the rear of the car. I don't trust much else to remove grit off paint, especially on black surfaces (if that so happens to be the color of your car...)

 

My coupe gets some 5' o clock shadow too, I just take a couple of cups of water, pour them on the top part of the rear bumper (start on one side then go to opposite side) then get out the quick detailer spray and lightly wipe either straight up and down or a couple of wipes in one direction across the whole rear bumper.

5 o'clock shadow...lol. It does look like that.

I'm glad to see the water first advice. I'd always been taught to wash down the car
and that anything that didn't use water was to be mistrusted. I've got a good layer
of wax on the G so the grit does come off easily. I just never have the time mid-week to touch up.
I caught myself going around the front of the car to get in so I don't have to look at it.
Sheesh. How bad is that.

OK, so a while back I ran over a bag of cement that fell off of a truck. Good thing that bag was ran over a quite a few times (it was right on the on-ramp so I couldn’t avoid it). So anywho, I hit the bottom of the front bumper (just barely) and guess what? The rear of the car was really, really dusty! Now, you can call me ol Dusty Butt for that one I washed the car a few days later and the rear felt scratchy. What I did first was gave it a good ol hose-down. Next, I washed it with my Sheepskin mitt (two bucket method) and then I clay bar’ed that butt. After all that, the butt was nice and smooth afterwards (ok, get your mind out of the gutter). As for a lot of soot in the back bumper, I actually really noticed it (however, on the back of the license plate, there is a good amount of soot there so I clean it once in a while).

I thought everyone knew what that stuff on our back
bumper was!! Due to the shape of the body and the
junk we put in our gas tanks the stuff on your rear
bumper is exhaust residue. Having a cat-back system
doesn't change a damn thing! (I'm on my third)
Having a California Duster will get rid of the stuff until the next time you drive your car. Rear bumper
krud is just a fact of life nowdays..........
