Are there any trunk CD changer replacements?

Has anyone come across any replacements for the trunk cd changer? Like one that can play mp3s? Or, maybe something useful in place of the cd changer?

I'm going to have mine taken out altogether and replaced with a normal trunk liner to free up space.

With the in dash CD player, 10gb hard drive to burn cds onto, XM radio and my 80gb ipod in the console I really have no need for the CD changer anyway. In fact it might be the most useless accessory this car has IMO.

I'd like to do the same thing, but I think my money would be better spent on a trunk mat. It's placement in the trunk, and lack of any modern features definitely makes the changer dead weight.

My first mod: unplug cd changer in trunk.

That was enough for me, at least now it doesn't show up when I'm cycling audio sources on the head unit. Has anyone priced a new liner yet?

Hummm, hadn't thought out that. Sounds like a good idea.

I planned on doing this mod over the summer, but I just never got around to it. I've got zero use for the CD Changer in the trunk and could really use the extra space.

I called the parts section of the dealer and they think the part that we want is around 72 bucks. He's not sure though because the part description and the picture wasn't very good. When I'm in for my 7500 service (in a couple hundred miles) I'll show him and he can order the right part for me. I've been wanting to get rid of the changer for a while now.

changer is useful if you listen to foreign language CDs, or have a collection of burned CDs, like lullabies.

Alpine used to make an MP3 six CD changer that could be put into a BMW (with an adapter) a while back. I never did it because it was way overpriced.

I'm with you guys...haven't used a CD in years, and barely even make use of the in-dash player. Would much rather have the free space in the trunk...or connect something more useful in that spot. If there were video lines running along the same path, I could put a laptop there with my Sprint Aircard and setup internet access on the NAV screen!

Just pulled my changer out. Pretty easy actually. There's four pins that hold up the top liner, and four bolts that hold the changer in place. I left the liner off completely, but would like to replace it with a proper liner at some point. My dealer told me 100 bucks for the replacement. dopey, if you know where I can get it for 72, let me know. And if anyone wants to buy a barely used changer, let me know.

Now on to how to make use of that input connector!

Can you take a pic of what it looks like without it, for both space reasons and to see what it looks like without the liner? Glad someone took the leap on this for sure!
