i have been dealing with the most annoying rattle coming from the back seat/deck of my sedan for like the last 2 months....and after taking off the rear seats and deck approx 5 times, i have finally found the freaking culprit.....it was the damn x-shaped braces that criss cross behind the rear seat backs......apparently, there are like 5 bolts per side and some of them had become loose..... ....hurray because it was driving me insane...im posting this because i have read of similiar rattles and creaks here and hope this helps someone.

in addition, when i went to the dealer for my 7500 mile tune up and i asked the service rep to look at it and he immediately told me that because i had an amp installed and 12" box, that rattles in the rear of the car were not covered because it was caused by that....meanwhile the loaner they gave me made the same damn noise.....so now i wrote a nice letter to the manager !!!! what a bunch of a-holes

 

Yup, as soon as they see any modifications, every problem you have will be tied to it. If you ride their a$$e$, they will look into it for you.

 

Audio is the cause of many rattles and the perfect way for the dealer to get out of the rest of them.

 

This one is documented into one of the searchable online Infiniti Service Bulletins tho...

I complained about a creek sound coming from the drivers side front corner and they told me I have "Aftermarket Rims" so they will NOT diagnose the sound. . WTF?

Glad you found the source. I am also trying to figure out the creaking sound
that seem to come from the rear of the car. Can you tell me how you get access to the cross brace that you speak of? I have an 05 with Sport & Premium Package, what's yours?

I don't have this rattle, but just got the 'rear axle click' over the past few weeks or so.

I hate going to the dealer.

 

i hate that rear axle clicking! all they do to remove it is lube it up which fixes it, but not permanantly =/

 

to get access to the front of the brace, you have to remove the seats. To gain access to the rear, you have to remove the carpet like cardboard just behind the seats.
I believe that is the area you are speaking of.

to take out the seats you have to start on the lower seat cushion. In the front of the bottom cushion there are two pull tabs (one on each side). Pull on each side and lift it out.

Once you have the lower cushion out, you will be able to see two bolts per upper cushion. Unbolt those and lift those cushions out.
The cardboard is removed buy taking out the pull tabs that hold it in. When you look in the back of the trunk you will know what I'm talking about. I don't think you will need to take this out, though.

Paul721 - I had the EXACT same problem with my car...I shook my head when I found the problem & fixed it myself...unreal w/ the QC (quality control) on a freaking Infiniti.

psedog - he has the premium package, so those steps are not all that is involved. He'll have to unbolt each of the rear seats also.

Eric300zx - you'll have to search for the DIY or thread on how to remove the rear seat for the premium package......it's kind of a PITA, but at least you're exorcism of the rattles should be successful I just tried to find it but had no luck...sorry.
