Volumetric Efficiency or (VE) :The actual amount of air the engine ingests compared to the theoretical maximum. For naturally aspirated engines with two valves per-cylinder a VE over 95% is outstanding and 100% is possible.Engines operating at 100% VE will be ingesting it's total displacement every two crank revolutions.

100% VE AIRFLOW (scfm) = DISPLACEMENT (ci) x RPM / 3456

aum003,

I get 24mpg on 93 octane, and I'm hardly a conservative driver. What's your mpg now, and how much are you aiming to improve it by?

g35x gets **** mpg

I am sure after a lil exhaust work you can improve the mpg's a bit. 24 is quite nice, is that combined?

these were the first things that came to mind, and i would like some help from somoene who knows what they are doing.

1. new pleneum
2. intake
3. underdrive pulley
4. lightweight rims ( stocks weigh 25-28lbs, decresing that weight will drastically increase gas mileage, thats for sure)

and please, i kno this a HPV and i shudnt bitch about gas...but i know it can be improvved with very little effort and the problem is the inefficiency of the vq.

can someone please reply with other engine mods that will improve feul efficiency while still maintaining/improiving performance.
All performance mods will decrease you fuel economy simply because you will be more prone to driver faster. If you want to drive faster you shouldn’t be concerned about fuel efficiency. Probably not what you wanted to hear but it's the fact. Once you start adding performance mods you’re going to have a heavier right foot. (at least that’s what happened to me).

I'm not saying the intake is going to cause a major decrease in MPGs, but I doubt it will improve MPGs.
I agree. I have been tracking my mpg ever since I bought my car new. "Un-modded", I was getting an average of 21.78 mpg for a span of 5767 miles. I added a Z-tube, MD 5/16 spacer, and a K&N drop in filter. From 5767 to 7129 miles, I averaged 21.43 mpg. I know my driving habits are pretty much the same from day to day due to my 63 mile drive to work every day (all highway miles). But, it showed me that intake mods wouldn't increase my mpg. It did increase my fun to drive factor though. Mainly just the sound of the engine. But thats a thread for another time. The best way to increase your mpg is to decrease you pedal travel. Meaning, slow down and drive it like grandma. Then you might see a 3-4 mpg increase if your lucky. But hell, why did you buy the car in the first place. Have fun and just pay for more gas/speeding tickets.

Well, if i cruise at 70-75 and stay under 2700rpm I can get 26-29, city is the problem, if i feather it i get max 17, mixed is usually 23.6 -24.5. I drove on route5 this past weekend, i only got 380 to thetank and i cruised at 80 the whole way,...that pissed me off. I seriously just feel like this engine can run more efficiently.

Not sure where Bay Area CA is (pardon my right-coast ignorance), but you're probably running the AC, aren't you? That easily drops my mgp by 4-6. Turning off the AC probably isn't an option, but maybe minimize it as much as possible? Lowering will also improve your mpg, though by how much is debatable. Keep tire pressure at recommended levels, and try narrower and/or taller tires, if you don't mind sacrificing performance.

Increase low end horse power (torque) shift sooner.
Or you could always drive down a mountain road. I'm sure this thread will answer all the questions that have been asked for 3 years.

Maybe think about a tow truck with your car behind it.

PS I just had to post this

keeping ac off doesn't necessarily help increase gas mileage all that much.... my 2k2 6spd maxima averaged 25mpg going from sacramento to irvine and back with ac on the whole time w/ speed averaging between 75 to 80 mph on interstate 5... and this is in the summer months when it is hot in central california.... averaged the same mpg's in the winter time when just using the heater and same average high speeds too....
