What type of mileage are you getting?
What type of mileage are you getting?
I've only had the car a few days and I'm half way through my second tank of gas and I'm really shocked at it's terrible gas mileage. I came from a 5 liter Mustang so I'm familiar with what to expect in a larger engine car but my nav system is showing that my average mpg is 14. This is ridiculous even if I was driving that thing hard. It's well below the advertised rate.

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
Temps are finally starting to drop here in NC and as I was hoping, I am noticing an increase in MPG. Every fill up until now I got 16.25 MPG city. This last tankful I was able to finally stop cranking the AC (still used it more than half the time but not always...plus it was not blasting 100% when it was on) and my mileage increased to 16.75 MPG. Has to be AC because I have gotten 16.25 MPG for 8 straight fillups before this one.
So I can either move to a cooler place to get better MPG or accept it as it is. I choose the latter

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
Yes, crappy milegae is the only issue I have about my G. 15-17 mpg. I hope to switch over the synthetic oil after the break-in period in hope to increase gasoline efficiency. Yet, compared to my Mercedes, G is alright.

I live in Santa Barbara, CA. During the winter, weather drops to about 70 instead of 75.

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
Last week I made a 800 mile run to Phoenix, Arizona and back to my home near Victorville, California. I conducted an informal mpg test with interesting results. One 160 mile stretch at 82 - 85mph resulted in 21.3mpg. On the next 200 mile leg I got 24.7mpg at 78 - 80mph. Another 260 mile stretch at 80mph, included several high speed passes, netted 23.34mpg. The missing miles were a combination of highway and heavy city traffic, so I didn't include them in the test.
The results of my test. When the engine operated over 3000rpm the gas mileage dropped 3.5mpg or 15%. (This seems to support TechnoSquare's AT Sedan fuel map findings.)
My G35 is a 2003 AT Sedan with the 350Z air duct, Stillen’s CAI and Gordgee's 7-wire Hyper-Ground Kit. I've also added a 350Z engine cover modified for increased air flow across the plenum.

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
With 90% highway miles...22MPG (typically @ 85mph)
With 50% highway miles...19.5MPG
I don't really experience stop and go city driving, more accurately described as non-highway susburbia miles. So my mileage isn't too bad, but nowhere close to the 23/27 my 02 TL gave me.

doesn't matter what I do, I usually get 21-22 mpg, I'm pretty much astounded at all of your low figures, in fact I don't think I've ever gone below 20 mpg ever

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
Same as Chinee for my 6MT sedan, but...
On a 380 mile trip from Sacramento to LA, 75-85 mph, got 24.8mpg.
This includes a big mountain pass too.
Not too shabby IMHO.
BTW, this is almost exactly what I got with my former car, a 2002 Altima 3.5SE automatic.
City driving KILLS the mileage, so it really pays to accelerate like a honda civic to save on gas.
But then... where's the fun in that?

Hey Sicshift, i live in SB too and i have a friend that has a '03 G, and regular driving around SB get him about 20 MPG, so maybe something is wrong....
Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
maybe it's cause my car is still in the break in period? I don't know. It's got about 250 miles on it.

Re: What type of mileage are you getting?
On a trip from Lancaster, CA to Las Vegas, I managed 27mpg.. but there were extenuating circumstances limiting my speed to around 55-60mph the whole way. (That's a different story.)
The return trip (to San Diego, not Lancaster) was more in the 80-85mph range and got about 24mpg.
Around town I can get anywhere from 14-18mpg depending on the amount of lead in my foot.
