Stupid Question - Why do you drop a car?

Why does it seem everyone here love a dropped car? So you drop it a couple of inches and all of a sudden it's like the greatest thing? I'm asking because I'm getting a complex that my '05X isn't dropped!

First, it looks nicer... much nicer.

Second, your car will handle better.

lets just compare the phots hheheheheh.

no dropped......

and...

SLAMMEDD! (ok, not exactly slammed, but lowered 8) )

better handling, better looks, better hotness. loose the wheel gap, make the car look sleeker - prob more aerodynamic as well. stiffer suspension = less movement equals more power to the ground (very mild). make it look more like a race car less like a off road vehicle!!! to many advantages to list!!!!

disadvantage - just go a lil slower over speed bumbs/driveways. thats all.

Better looks, better handling because of lower center of gravity.

Yeah, it just is better all around. The picture helps but does not do it justice. Lowering the center of gravity means better (stiffer) spring response, and good looks. It also means that you get a better feel for the road, like the steering is more accurate.

Also, the reduced fender gap between the tire and the wheel wells make the rims look bigger.

mind you that most ricers do the drop because of the look
since they can't afford a "correct" drop, i.e. new springs with new shocks that can handle the springs and provide proper dampening...

thus, those ricers are most of the time worsening their handling as opposed to improving it, even thought the c.g. has been lowered.

Thus, if you want to do it, do it correctly; otherwise, why bother lowering? if you are happy with the way your car looks hand feels

^^^^ I agree lol

the X does not have aftermarket shocks. so buy a pair of unrevised Z suspension and slap it on....they match the springs rates that the stocks are used to quite well.

Story to share..

I have been on this prelude that my friend owned.. for stock, it handles quick nice and the ride is not harsh or floaty. Yet, after he snapped on a set of Tein lowering spring using his stock shocks...he totally killed his ride, any slight bump or uneveniness in the pavement can send him going sideway around the corners.. moreover, he sometimes can't even decelerate/accelerate properly due to the fact that his shocks just CANT handle the new progressive spring rate that the tein springs offer

After half a year... the springs just totally killed his shocks..lol

FYI: I am lowered But do it properly, or dun do it !

guys...he cant get shocks, he has an X!

the best he can do, is buy the 350Z unrevised springs

or, he can do what I am doing, buy the revised suspension and the rear shocks off of the 350z (front shocks wont fit the X)

Thanks so much for all of these replies, ok now I know and it sounds like a great idea. However, being the non-modder that I am, how would I go about doing this? Do I have to find a shop in MA that does something like this and buy the parts beforehand? I want to make sure I do it right.
