Question Navi upgrade question

I just got a 7.1 disc and found out the hard way that is doesn't work with mine.

1. Does anyone know if changing the reader with a newer one will fix that and work? Is the reader the brain as well?

2. Has anyone ever upgraded their 03-04 Navi to an 05-06?

3. When did the menus get updated to look like the M menus 05 or 06?

I tried the search and got no useful results inlcuding a thread on a blown engine.....poor guy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

lol.. the 7.1 is for the M and new FX only. I suspect it will be for 2007+ G35s as well. We have to stick with 6.1 and under. Totally different software.

Nope, 2006 G35's use the 7.1 disc. I pulled out the DVD on my 06 and it's green and 7.1

I believe the reader and LCD are different on the 06 compared with the rest. I read the 06 LCD has a higher resolution. The reader is considered the "brain".

Seriously? Argh. Just makes you hate yourself more for owning an '05.

So the 06 IS different than the 05? So I guess the 05 has the same menu graphics as my '05? If you read above I DID use the search function. Maybe it did not like my keywords. I tried many combination of words, one of them being "Navigation System Upgrade" and somehow I got a thread reading 'I blew up my engine'. Not quite related. I've only gotten the search to work for me 50%-60% of the time. Maybe it's not filtering out sigs or something.

So has anyone tried to upgrade the reader and/or the screen and any other parts of the dash electronics.

I saw these things on eBay making me wonder. I played w/ the Navi on an 06 at the NY auto show and liked the menu and speed of the new system. Not to mention that the re-route on the '04 is way too slow (supposedly fixed on the '05).

Dash setup on ebay

Reader/brain on eBay

Does anyone have a tire pressure option in the menus? I saw it in a brochure a while back and figured it was a misprint like the pic showing audio on the Nav screen.

THE 03/04 NAV IS BETTER. Besides the outdated map, when you run low on gas, the 03/04 nav tells you where the gas station is, the 05 does not haev this option unless you manually input that you need a gas station.

yes they did upgrade the '06 Nav system compared to the '05 but the next generation G will have a faster software program and a more colored screen

The gas thing is cool, I'm surprised it's not there anymore, although I've rarely used it. How about the speed though. It takes forever to recalc. Not such an issue on wide open road, but we barely have wide open roads here in NY, so my nav usually gives me a new route option just as or after I've past it. I find that really frustrating.

I guess no one has done the swap.

Diesel, read the post above yours. It is EXACTLY to the point about the problems with Infiniti's navigation system. It's a horrible system. Thank yourself for saving $1500+.

Actually it's a $2k option, and still worth every penny. Despite the slow recalc the good definately outweighs the bad. I've been in the market for an aftermarket in dash double din nav like the Pioneer, Kenwood or Alpine systems for my '05 RAV4, but the one BIG feature I can't find is the 3D birdview. Kenwood had it on the their previous generation unit that was comparable to the Nissan/Infiniti view. That view make a HUGE difference when judging what streets and exits are coming up & flat maps can't compare.

I wouldn't call it horrible, far from it.

Wasn't it $2k for the premium pkg first, then another $2k for the navi? Too rich for my blood

The current Kenwood KNA-G510 navi (sourced from Garmin) has 2D and 3D views. I have some screenshots in the audio forums (search for ddx 6019) but I don't remember if I took a pic of the 3D view.

True, but I wanted the premium and a fully loaded car so it was only $2K for me.

I was looking into the the Kenwood setup but I can't seem to find 3d screenshots. I'm trying to find a DD that shows a full screen 3D image w/ good detail. Many out there seem to only offer a split screen 3D view with limited detail and viewing area. I also looked into the Alpine and Pioneer Z1 and can't seem to find that view.

The pics you posted only showed a 2D shot. Very nice setup though. I like that HU.

I should have my car tomorrow. I'll take a pic so you can see what the 3D view looks like.
